On Wednesday morning, prior to the CAFM® graduates recognition, Hayden Gallagher of Ferris State University was awarded the NAFA Foundation's 2017 Willard DaSilva Student Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship was created to honor outstanding academic achievements of an individual enrolled in the automotive or fleet program of a NAFA partner university.

NAFA Foundation President Tom Lubas said, "(Hayden) is completing the bachelor degree requirements in Heavy Equipment Service Engineering as well as a minor in Fleet Management. He also has worked with a construction and forestry equipment dealer and obtained a summer internship with Cintas corporate's centralized fleet in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, he aided in fleet data analysis predicting ROI of a national tire program, evaluated MMS providers, and even got involved with location fleet audits."

Hayden was able to apply his knowledge independently and to pull resources from prior coursework and Internet research into fleet projects where appropriate, especially in the areas of lifecycle analysis, and researching maintenance software options.

The Scholarship was named in honor of NAFA’s long-time legal counsel, Willard H. DaSilva, and the recipient was determined by the NAFA Foundation.

Lubas added, "Coming from a large family with four siblings in a single income household, our recipient said that college has been an expensive luxury, but the risk has come with great rewards and has given him the motivation to maintain a 3.64 GPA in courses that expanded his level of knowledge."

The NAFA Foundation is honored to lessen the financial burden for an individual already on his way to becoming an exemplary fleet professional.

Congratulations Hayden! NAFA is proud of you!
