What an unforgettable day at MPI Toronto Chapter’s Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) 2025 at the Chelsea Hotel, Toronto! This year, MPI Toronto Chapter, PCMA Canada East, CanSPEP, ILEA, and SITE Canada came together to showcase the power of collaboration and the bright future of business events. With the theme Level Up: Innovating the Future of Events, the event sparked meaningful discussions about how our industry continues to evolve and how we can push the boundaries of creativity and innovation.
A standout moment was the keynote from Cherry Rose Tan, MBA, MA, who took the stage to deliver an inspiring session on resilience, adaptability, and the mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing landscape. She reminded us of the importance of community, shifting our perspective on challenges, and transforming obstacles into opportunities for creative solutions.
The GMID planning committee executed a seamless, high-energy event that kept attendees engaged and inspired. Debbie van der Beek, President and Chief Visionary Officer of Ignite Magazine, kicked off the Current Events discussion, emphasizing the vital role business events play in driving connection, innovation, and economic recovery. She urged industry professionals to advocate for face-to-face meetings, reinforcing their value as more than just networking opportunities—they are essential catalysts for business growth and alignment.
Technology was also in the spotlight, with Chris Baron, Senior Director of Innovation at Encore Canada, offering insights into Emerging Event Formats. He showcased how AI is revolutionizing every stage of an event, from planning and engagement to execution, proving that technology is not just a tool but a strategic advantage in the industry.
Rounding out the discussions, Julie Danaylov led thought-provoking roundtables on Audience Engagement, underscoring the importance of deeply understanding attendees, defining clear objectives from the start, and using technology in a way that enhances—rather than overwhelms—the experience.
Beyond the enriching discussions, GMID 2025 delivered an unforgettable attendee experience. Snap and Sweet Cool Photo Booth Activation added an interactive, fun element to the day, while the Chelsea Hotel, Toronto set a new standard with an exceptional brunch that had everyone talking. Attendees also had the opportunity to experience the hotel’s stunning renovations, which elevates the guest experience and reinforces its position as a premier venue for meetings and events.
A huge thank you to the planning committee and every attendee who contributed to the energy and success of the event. GMID 2025 was more than just an industry gathering—it was a testament to the strength of in-person connections and the limitless potential of our industry.
Let’s keep pushing forward and continue to elevate the future of events together!
