On Nov. 20, our chapter gathered for its Fall 2021 Fundraiser at the beautiful Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

It was my first MPISCC fundraiser, my first time to the venue and the first time I brought my husband Hunter to an MPISCC event. And what a success on all fronts!

We started with the auction and welcome cocktails on the Conservatory Terrace. Whilst perusing the auction items, I was encouraged by the ladies of Oh Snaptastic! to get my photo taken with Hunter, and it was the best couple’s photo we got all year! Score.

Over the next several months, the You Belong Committee will be sharing what we call "The DEI Minute" — which is quick hits of information and content designed to help our chapter level-set our collective diversity, equity and inclusion knowledge. We'll start by providing the definitions of the most commonly used terminology in the space as the starting point of our journey as we embark on true learning and awareness — together!

Inclusion
Inclusion is the practice of intentionally creating an environment where all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, nation or country of origin, disability, age and socioeconomic background feel welcome, valued, respected and have access to equal opportunities.

"Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance."

Because we want to hear from ALL MPISCC members, we've extended the submission deadline for the DEI Survey through the end of the year.

This is your chance to have your voice heard and your perspective counted. It will only take three minutes of your time, so here's your chance to be counted!

Each month, MPI Southern California Chapter is featuring one of our members to get to know them and highlight their contributions to the chapter and the industry overall.

Recently, we spoke with Jenn Minzley, chair of the Emerging Leaders Program at MPI Southern California Chapter. As a senior event planner with decades of experience, Jenn is the perfect leader to reach out to and guide the future generation of event professionals.

On Nov. 18, MPISCC members Jenn Minzley, Karly Watson - UCLA Event Sales, Nikki Wilbur -  associate director of Milken Events, Suzy Kay - Visit Santa Barbara and Gaeton Mousseau - director of sales for Terranea, spoke as a panel virtually to a group of hospitality students at Cal-State Northridge.

The four panelists spoke about careers and educational skills in the event planning, meetings and incentive travel industries. The students were thrilled to speak to these industry leaders and had many questions for the panelists.

MPISCC is working with colleges and schools with programs in the hospitality and event planning industries. Please be on the lookout for upcoming panels with students at CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton and University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
