  • With the goal of increasing membership diversity, this year MPISCC established a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, hosted five incredible DEI events and created the “You Belong” DEI scholarship initiative.
  • To secure the chapter’s financial health, MPISCC hosted multiple fundraising events, raising over $8,000 for the chapter and becoming one of the last MPI chapters to touch reserve funds during the pandemic.
  • And lastly, they partnered with Los Angeles Dream Center to provide meals to children in need, giving back during what we all know was a very difficult time.

I don't know about you, but hearing outgoing President Kristin Twombly (2020-2021) discuss these accomplishments made me really proud to be an MPISCC member. I’m looking forward to seeing what the new Chapter President Amani Roberts (2021-2022) and President-Elect Amy Zelinsky (2022-2023) are able to achieve.

OK, Digging into the Event:

This virtual, hour-long event began with Kristin discussing the loose agenda and encouraging members to ask questions and speak their minds. The town hall style made the entire experience feel more like an engaged discussion, which was appreciated and appropriate given the topics covered.

At a glance, we looked at the organization’s accomplishments, financial health, DEI initiatives and any questions members came prepared with. I noticed that people felt empowered to speak their minds, often leading to praise for new initiatives like the MPISCC’s book club. We were also able to discuss educational topics members wanted to see covered, like “new business manners” and “how to re-enter the live event scene gracefully.”

Overall, this virtual event felt more like a friendly discussion, and I got the sense that attendees left with a clear understanding of where the organization was headed for the new term (at least, I did!). As always, an event not to be missed, especially if you’re an MPISCC member or looking to join!
