On August 14, MPI Southern California members gathered together for D.i.Y. Innovation with Sekou Andrews—a schoolteacher, actor, musician and award-winning poetic voice—to explore how to truly be disruptive.

The event took place at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center—the perfect setting for an educational luncheon about innovation and disruption. The Luskin Center, which opened in August 2017, was designed to honor the inherent link between innovation and rejuvenation. A LEED Platinum-certified property enhanced by cutting edge technology, the UCLA Luskin Conference Center’s beautiful environment inspires engagement, creativity and the exchange of ideas.

During the luncheon Sekou discussed the difference between ‘Why didn’t I think OF that?’ and ‘Why didn’t I think LIKE that?’” The presentation left guests with insight, takeaways and inspiration for their own organizations and industries. According to member Candice Moore, “The keynote was excellent! His style, presentation, and information was both relevant, food for thought, and super engaging! I’ve never heard a speaker like that before.”

Congratulations to Holly Smith, Brandon Tallman, Kitty Silbereich, Beth Hansler and David Anderson, who were recognized as Shining Stars of the quarter for their outstanding contributions as volunteers. Contact us to learn more about how you too can make a difference in our community.

MPISCC also extends a very special congratulations to Tony DiRaimondo, who is celebrating his 40th year as a member. Tony first joined MPI in 1979 and has remained active in the chapter, volunteering on countless committees and serving as chapter president from 1991-1992. Tony, we sincerely thank you for your years of contribution!
