MPIGNY 30/30

MPI Greater New York Chapter

Message from Our President

The countdown to fall has begun. I hope you have all had a great summer so far and are looking forward to fall. I hear Dunkin Donuts is already serving gallons upon gallons of pumpkin spiced varieties of F&B.

August brought us more great events.

We gave back to the community at God’s Love We Deliver on Aug. 9. If you haven’t been able to make it to one of these activities, I highly suggest joining one in the future. Speaking of CSR, we have an activity set up on Sept. 14 at GMHC. To register for this event, interested volunteers should email the Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes, CMP, at marisawilkes922@gmail.com by Sept. 7 with your name and email address. More information can be found on our website at the link below on the list of Upcoming Events.

The first Annual PCMA/MPIGNY Softball Game took place on Aug. 19 in Central Park. Unfortunately, MPIGNY lost, but a ton of fun was had by all, and we are looking forward to next year’s game! Keep this game in mind for next year as we will seek revenge!

Finally, the latest installment of our After 6 Mix was held on Aug. 24 at Sally Can Wait. From what I hear, it was a great event, and many new connections were made. Look out for the next event coming soon.

As I mentioned in my last message and will continue to all year 😊, it takes a big team of volunteers to execute these outstanding events. We need YOU, our members, to jump in and assist where you can. How can you help? What are your interests or skills? It doesn’t need to take a large amount of your time. It can be as little or as much as you would like to dedicate. We will work with you and your schedule. Please reach out to me or any of our Board Members if you want to or are able to get more involved with the Chapter. We would love to have you! You should have received an email from the Chapter with a survey titled “Find Your Fit.” Please complete the survey if you are interested in volunteering.

I'm looking forward to this month and next as we have some great events lined up. We will also host our next Education Event on Sept. 21 “Putting People First: The Business Case for Creating Safety & Engagement” at the Graduate Roosevelt Island. Registration is open, so click on the link below to register.
Hope to see you at some of our upcoming events!

Industry News

One of MPIGNY's Past Presidents, Dan Paradiso, tragically lost his house and all of his family's possessions in an electrical fire on October 25th. Thankfully, no one was home at the time, and Dan, his wife, Tara, and their four children are all safe. Sadly, their two dogs, Pancake and Pepper, were in the house, and both perished.

A GoFundMe page has been started on behalf of the family to provide aid in securing housing and to replace some of their belongings. If you wish to make a donation in support of Dan and his family, you may do so here.

This year’s EI event will be held at the newly renovated Sea Crest Hotel in Falmouth, MA. Falmouth is a beautiful coastal town on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is known for its beaches and traditional New England flare.

If you are not familiar with EI, it is the New England chapter’s premier educational conference offering engaging keynotes from speakers such as Johnny Earle, founder of Johnny Cupcakes, and innovative educational sessions. The conference is designed to provide professional development (including CMP credits) and create ample opportunities to network with event professionals and suppliers. All meeting and event professionals are welcome, whether you are a corporate planner, sales professional, or university faculty member.

MPI Greater New York members are invited to attend this year's EI at MPI New England member rates. Click the link below to register, and use code MPIEastRegionMembers at check out.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
