Where did September go? Time is flying by. Summer is in the rear view, and we are gearing up for fall.
Last month, MPIGNY held a variety of events, all of which were very popular among our members. We started off by partnering with our friends within the other hospitality associations in the area for the End of Summer Bash onboard the Spirit of New York. We had over 150 in attendance, and an enjoyable evening was had by all. The following day, our CSR Committee and members gave back at GMHC. I am told it was a great event and we will be looking to do more at GMHC in the coming months. Finally, we kicked off our Education series at the Graduate Roosevelt Island, where we listened to speakers Tim Mousseau and Sue Hershkowitz-Coore discuss how to create Safety and Engagement at our meetings and events. We ended at the Panorama Room Rooftop bar for a few cocktails and great views of Manhattan.
As I mentioned in my last message and will continue to all year 😊, it takes a big team of volunteers to execute these outstanding events. We need YOU, our members, to jump in and assist where you can. How can you help? What are your interests or skills? It doesn’t need to take a large amount of your time. It can be as little or as much as you would like to dedicate. We will work with you and your schedule. Please reach out to me or any of our Board Members if you want to or are able to get more involved with the Chapter. We would love to have you! You should have received an email from the Chapter with a survey titled “Find Your Fit.” Please complete the survey if you are interested in volunteering.
Moving into October, we have a great volunteer opportunity at God’s Love We Deliver on October 20, which I'm happy to say is already nearly full! Thank you to all of our members who continue to show up for this amazing organization. If you are interested, there are just two spots left, BUT should we fill up, our Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes,CMP, is keeping a list of volunteers on standby should anyone need to cancel closer to the event date. Please contact Marisa directly to add your name!

JUST TWO SPOTS LEFT!
This organization holds a special place in our hearts and we look forward to returning once again this month to help out in the kitchen prepping and preparing meals for our city's most vulnerable. Should the event fill up, we will start a waitlist of interested volunteers who are able to step in should anyone need to cancel closer to the event. If you would like to add your name, please contact MPIGNY Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes, CMP.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Kitchen Prep (8-10 Volunteers)
Work as a group in the kitchen on a variety of tasks with the guidance of GLWD on-staff chefs. Tasks may include packaging meals, chopping vegetables, ladling soup, peeling potatoes or making meatballs. Volunteers may also package meal bundles for clients and assemble children's meal kits.
Clothes must cover your shoulders, underarms, knees and toes (with closed-toe shoes). Watches, bracelets and dangling earrings must be removed. You can bring your own hat! Masks and gloves will be provided.
God’s Love We Deliver is located in SoHo at 166 Avenue of the Americas, convenient to the C or E train at Spring Street or the 1 train at Houston Street. The entrance is on the corner of Spring Street and 6th Avenue.

MPIGNY will be returning to GMHC in November to assist in the preparation and distribution of groceries to members of the community. Please join us!
GMHC’s Grab and Go Food Distribution Program was created in response to both the building and the GMHC dining room closing in March 2020 due to COVID-19. We will distribute locally sourced fresh produce, dairy, eggs, shelf stable foods and hygiene kits from the lobby of the GMHC building. We will be serving GMHC clients as well as the general public.
Prior to distribution, we will be tasked with packing fresh produce and dairy items and packing shelf stable pantry bags. This volunteer day is especially important as more help than usual will be needed as the organization will be packaging for the Thanksgiving distribution the following week.
To register for this event, interested volunteers should email the Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes, CMP at marisawilkes922@gmail.com by November 2 with your name and email address.

As the dog days of summer wound down, members from HSMAIGNY, MPIGNY, ILEA, NYC & Company, SITE, NYSAE, SKAL and PCMA came together to celebrate all that New York City tourism has accomplished this past year with our colleagues, clients and friends. And what better way to do that then to set sail aboard City Experience's Spirit of New York? With the iconic skyline of Manhattan and The Statue of Liberty as a backdrop for this event, attendees enjoyed a beautiful evening on the Hudson River. Kudos to City Cruises for going the extra mile to make this event so memorable—open bar, great hors d'oeuvres, a delicious buffet dinner and a staff that was both pleasant and professional—who could ask for more? It was great to hear all of the positive feedback as attendees exited the boat. Special thanks to the team at HSMAI who made this all possible.

On September 14, four MPIGNY members joined forces to volunteer for GMHC's Grab & Go Food Distribution program. We started off packing bags which consisted of milk, cereal, canned goods, chocolate bars and fruit. We also packed fresh vegetables. In total along with other volunteers, we packed around 400 bags which were then distributed to about 200 people at two bags per person. Following the packing, we pivoted to actually giving out bags to the community residences. This was a rewarding experience giving food out to those in need and seeing the community we were helping.

The September 21 education program took us to an island…Roosevelt Island! The Graduate Roosevelt Island Hotel was the perfect setting for an afternoon of education and experiencing new spaces.
Our program “Putting People First: The Business Case for Creating Safety and Engagement” featured two dynamic speakers: Tim Mousseau discussed how we can design emotionally safe events. He shared how to advocate for our safety needs, overcome the status quo and celebrate divergent viewpoints through simple actions that can lead to significant results at your events. Sue Hershkowitz-Coore followed sharing key points about the power of language in developing strong relationships with your stakeholders and how to be persuasive with tips on showing authenticity and developing inclusive messaging that creates emotional certainty for your clients and partners.
It was an enlightening session with an engaging Q&A facilitated by our very own board member, Travis Pham, CMP. Attendees left emotionally charged and poised to put new learned skills into action. The evening closed with a robust networking reception complete with delicious food & drink. To make the experience even more special, The Graduate team invited our group to their rooftop space, The Panorama Room, to enjoy live jazz and spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline; it was a perfect way to end the day! Thank you to our education partner, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions; our gracious host, the Graduate Roosevelt Island; and Iron Clad Audio Visual for their technical support.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
