MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President
Well, here we are, a new year for the Board and Chapter of MPI Greater New York. I am so excited and honored to be the President of this amazing Chapter. We have so much to look forward to during the upcoming year (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023). This year we will be hosting the Annual Golf Outing, Auction & Mixology event, Annual Genie Awards, multiple After 6 mixes, four outstanding education sessions and partnering with other associations on some great networking events. There also will be other opportunities that will pop up as we move through the year. All of this will not be possible without the hard work of my Board. As a reminder, here is who will be coming along for the ride with me this year:

Laura Mulholland, CMP - Immediate Past President

Hallia Baker, CMP - Vice President, Education

I would be remiss if I did not mention a couple board members who have finished their terms after many years of service. First, I’d like to thank Sarah Thomas on her efforts during the past few years on the Membership Committee as well as the Genie’s Committee. Sarah’s hard work and dedication to catering to the needs of our members has been incredible and she will be missed dearly. But don’t worry, Sarah won't be a stranger; she's still a member of the chapter so you'll be able to see her at several of our events. Second: your friend and mine (one of his favorite quotes) Patrick Colomer. Patrick has been a worthy servant to the Greater New York Chapter taking on various roles and continuing to contribute to MPI as part of the Chapter Member Advisory Council at the MPI Global level. Patrick was the reason I joined the Board of the Greater New York Chapter. He is always willing to lend a hand where needed as well as give advice—warranted or not. Thank you, Patrick and Sarah, for helping to make the Greater New York Chapter what it is today.

To deliver all that we do as a Board takes a big team of volunteers. We need YOU, our members, to jump in and assist where you can. How can you help? What are your interests or skills? It doesn’t need to take a large amount of your time; it can be as little or as much as you would like to dedicate. We'll work with you and your schedule. Please reach out to me or any of our Board Members if you want, or are able, to become more involved with the Chapter. We would love to have you!

I look forward to meeting those of you whom I don’t know and catch up with everyone I do know during the coming year. Thank you to all those who have supported me thus, far and thank you to all of our members for being a part of my journey.

Hope to see you at some of our upcoming events!

The Past 30...

Thank you to all who joined us for an afternoon of Education & Celebration at Cathedrale and The Ready Rooftop to close out the 2021-2022 Chapter year.

This year’s Genie Awards kicked-off with an informative education program, Transforming Mental Wellness in Your Workplace. Mike Veny, our keynote speaker and MPIGNY chapter member, shared his personal journey to mental wellness in a very relatable way. We learned about key stress points, and how to overcome them and turn what appears negative into a positive outcome. Mike left us with much food for thought and the challenge to determine within 24 hours what we would do differently going forward. Thanks to our education partner, Wind Creek Bethlehem, for helping us offer another great program to our members.

The education program was an excellent prelude to an afternoon celebrating the dedication and commitment of chapter members exhibiting excellence for the chapter. Please join us in congratulating all the winners!

  • Outstanding Contribution by a Planner: Carrie Holmes & Carri Farrand
  • Outstanding Contribution by a Supplier: Devin Fassberg
  • Outstanding Contribution by an Emerging Event Professional: Micayla Diener, CMP, CSEP
  • Speaker of the Year: Greg Offner, Jr.
  • Committee of the Year: Marketing & Communications Committee
  • President’s Award: David Hughes
  • Hall of Fame Award: Kathie Stapleton

BIG thanks to Kalahari Resorts & Conventions for sponsoring the awards ceremony and to the Tao Group for providing Cathedrale Restaurant to host the education program and awards ceremony and The Ready Rooftop to close the event with an enjoyable dessert reception graciously sponsored by Visit Raleigh.  The day could not have ended better, with drinks, delectables, sun and fun!

Chapter Opportunities

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the past two years, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

Now, more than ever, your MPI membership can provide the connections and industry relationships you need to move forward toward recovery.

Interested planners can apply here.

We are actively looking for volunteers to join our Education and Marketing & Communications Committee. If you are interested in learning more and joining either commitee, please click the link below or check out our website. Volunteering with a committee is a great way to meet chapter members, build your network and skillsets. All are welcome.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.

Connect

Are you a new venue looking for an opportunity to showcase your space for event planners and industry leaders? Do you have a restaurant with the capability of hosting groups? Has your space undergone a renovation that you want the industry to see? Are you looking to boost your bookings in 2022? If you answered yes to any of these questions, become an MPIGNY Venue Partner!

MPIGNY hosts a number of events each year, ranging from education and networking events to our larger cross-industry Holiday Party to our annual signature fundraising Auction & Mixology event in the fall. Partnering with us means increased visibility and new business leads. We have a total reach to more than 3,000 meeting and event professionals within the New York tri-state area and would provide you with a tailor-made list of sponsor benefits that would touch each of these professionals not only at our partnered event, but through our MPIGNY network of social media, web presence, event marketing and beyond.
