MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

Hello –

Is it time to celebrate? Spring is in the air, business is coming back, tourism rates are ticking up, and workers are being called back into the office. We have all been through many ups and downs over the last two years, but our board is thrilled to be presenting several in-person events in the coming months, providing our members with opportunities to continue to reconnect, re-energize your network, and re-engage your brain with our education offerings. Please be sure to scroll through the rest of this newsletter and mark your calendars.

Speaking of celebrations, this year marks MPI’s 50th year, and MPI is asking you to share your story. We would like a range of stories—short video testimonials, memories, success stories, or recollections on how MPI has impacted your life for the better. It's easy to submit a brief video here.

Our chapter runs on the dedication and passion of our volunteer members. We have several opportunities available across all facets of the Chapter. Whether you want to learn a new skill or hone an existing one, whether you have an hour or lots of time on your hands, we want you to be involved with our community. Committee descriptions and more information can be found here.

Please mark your calendars and save the date for these exciting upcoming programs.

Join MPI Greater New York together with our industry partners—HSMAIGNYSite Northeast USAPCMA New York ChapterILEA New York MetroNYSAE, and the Live Events Coalition of NY & NJ—as we celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day, TOMORROW, Thursday, April 7, 4:00-7:30 p.m., at the Intercontinental New York Times Square.

After two years of navigating through the uncertainty of the pandemic, we are ready for an industry reset. Both planners and suppliers are looking for the new road that leads to best practices and success.

It is time to recalibrate our industry GPS. Hear from three planners—Lori Allen, Vice President, Global Event Operations, MetLife; Staceyann M. Van Horne-Doria, CMP, Director, Global Events, Showpad; and Wayne M. Robinson, CMP, CMM, Staff Vice President Events & Multimedia, FM Global—as they tell their personal stories post-pandemic: what they have done, what they are planning, and how they will approach future challenges. Moderator Carvie Gillikin, HMCC, President & Chief Client Officer, McVeigh Global Meetings & Events, will pilot the conversation for an engaging fireside chat.

In addition, you will also hear “Tales from the Trenches” where frontline workers—the unsung heroes that survived the challenges of a hard-hit industry—share personal stories of persistence in the face of adversity.

Join us as we revisit the past to take stock of the lessons learned that will lead us to a better tomorrow.

Don't miss this informative and engaging session where you will learn:

  • What in-person meetings currently look like
  • How to best partner with your supplier to set realistic expectations for future programs
  • How to overcome future obstacles, i.e. hotel availability, staff shortages, supply chain issues
  • What we are keeping and what we are leaving in the past as it pertains to planning in-person meetings going forward

Hamilton-Madison House is a voluntary, non-profit settlement house dedicated to improving the quality of life of its community, primarily those in the Two Bridges/Chinatown area of Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Since its establishment in 1898, Hamilton-Madison House has been a part of the settlement house movement in New York City that has pioneered the development and protection of humane policies and programs. These efforts have fostered social well-being among the city’s most vulnerable populations.

We will be delivering “touchless” pantry in the Alfred E. Smith Houses. Volunteers will be paired up with a partner and will deliver pre-packaged pantry bags to the Seniors. Please plan to meet at 9:00 a.. at 50 Madison Street for a brief orientation, and then we will proceed to deliver meals within the building.

Proof of vaccination and masks are required.

To sign-up, please email Marisa Wilkes, Director CSR.

Come join us for happy hour at Manhattan’s first whiskey distillery since Prohibition!

Located at 686 Broadway, between Great Jones & E. 4th Street, Great Jones Distilling Co offers bottles of their signature whiskeys and bourbons available for purchase exclusively at their location; not to mention stunning event spaces you won't want to miss.

After Six Mix is designed as a happy hour style experience. It is not structured, has no fee, no requirements. It is about relaxed interaction with fellow members. Bring your co-workers and friends, interact with like-minded professionals and enhance your circle of friends and industry colleagues.

We look forward to seeing you there!

The Next 30...And Beyond

MPI Greater New York is raising money for Cycle for Survival, the movement to beat rare cancers.

Will you join us?

Join our team or donate today and help give people facing rare cancers hope for a better future. Since 2007, the Cycle for Survival community has provided funding to hundreds of doctors and scientists in pursuit of bold ideas. From FDA approval of new drugs to the development of innovative diagnostic tools, Cycle for Survival-funded breakthroughs are transforming the way rare cancers are treated around the world.

100% of every dollar you give will go directly to groundbreaking research led by Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK). The funds raised are critical to launching initiatives and accelerating progress—benefiting people not just at MSK, but worldwide.

Your support makes so much possible. Together, we will continue to fight until every person with a rare cancer has a way to treat—or beat—their disease.

Please join MPI Greater New York on Thursday, July 28, 2022, for the 31st Annual Golf Outing sponsored by Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, when we once again return to Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, NY, for a day of golf, networking, and fun in an outdoor setting.

Not a golfer? Not a problem! There will be plenty of "non-golf" options to enjoy throughout the day.

We will be working with Harbor Links to ensure all necessary precautions and current New York State restrictions are enforced to ensure your safety while at the course.

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. Now, more than ever, your MPI membership can provide the connections and industry relationships you need to move forward toward recovery.
