MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

Hello –

Spring is almost upon us and the MPIGNY board is working diligently on some exciting programming for the next few months! Seeing our city come back from the pandemic has been so positive, and I feel it will just continue to get better from here. With that being said, if you have a venue or service that is new, renovated, reopened or you would just like to show off, we are searching for host venues for programs through 2023.

Please email me at lauramulholland@livenation.com. We have always strived to present our programs at a variety of member venues.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for both our education event on February 16 and networking event on February 22. It was great to see so many of you in person, and we truly appreciate you coming out to support the chapter. If you missed them, please scroll down to read more about these exciting events.

Our chapter runs on the dedication and passion of our volunteer members. We have several opportunities available across all facets of the chapter. Whether you want to learn a new skill or hone an existing one, whether you have an hour or lots of time on your hands, we want you to be involved with our community. Committee descriptions and more information can be found here.

As a reminder, it is MPI’s 50th Anniversary this year and we will be celebrating on both the global and chapter levels. Please keep an eye out for all the ways you can participate in the celebration.

Yours in hospitality,
Laura

The Past 30...

On February 16, MPIGNY hosted its first hybrid Educational Program of the year  – Be Mindful, Be Bold, Be Better! Intentional Meeting Design Makes the Difference!

Our panelists, Ashley Cardini, CMP, Founder, The Mindful Masterclass; Hallia Baker, CMP, Senior Events Manager, The Netherland America Foundation; and Gregory Offner, Jr., ARM, Professional Keynote Speaker, Creator of “Disruption & Creativity” shared their unique perspectives on how to infuse mindfulness into our meetings, being bold with meeting design despite challenges, and how disruption is a prime opportunity to be creative. It was an engaging session purposely held at SaksWorks; a terrarium-themed community workspace. We were nourished by the culinary arts of CxRA to the delight of all in attendance. And in the spirit of inclusivity, TotalCaption provided closed captioning. The evening closed with robust networking. Overall, it was an intentionally experiential event with relevant content, delivered in a top-notch manner!

During this event we also held a sock drive for Knock Knock Give A Sock, which provides socks to those in need. Through the generosity of our attendees, we gathered over 20 pairs of socks and donated them to a nearby homeless shelter that same evening. We will be continuing our partnership with this organization at all of our upcoming educational events, so feel free to bring a new pair of socks along with you to our next event to help us humanize homelessness one sock at a time.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Cucina 8½ for the Carnevale Italia Winter Social, presented by the MPI and HSMAI New York Chapters. In the spirit of Venice’s annual carnivale, we celebrated with a live accordionist in gondolier attire from Eddie Ocean Entertainment, and guests dressed the part with masquerade props at our photobooth presented by Incinerator Media Group. The amazing new space at Cucina 8½ did not disappoint, with a variety of Italian classic food dishes flowing throughout the night. A special thanks to Jeanette Andrews, Simon Pro Photo, and Sicilia Mia for participating and making it a very special evening on 2/22/22!

Chapter Opportunities

We are calling for (50) MPIGNY members to share their career journey with (50) PACE University Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, BBA undergraduate students.

Each student will be paired up with a current MPIGNY member for a 15-minute interview. They will ask some fun, basic questions and gain insight into your journey within the meetings industry — whether you are a supplier or planner.

This information will be marketed into short features for our social media channels and email newsletters to celebrate our 50th anniversary. It is great exposure for you and your company, and also meaningful support for our upcoming young leaders.

If you would like to be one of the (50) MPIGNY members to be interviewed and featured, please click this link to submit your name via the online form by Friday, March 4.

We are pleased to offer you an opportunity to help a colleague, friend or young professional experience the benefits of MPI membership. By giving this referral voucher to a future MPI member, you will allow them to waive the $50 application fee. Also, for each new member who uses the voucher, you will receive $25 off your next membership renewal. Be sure to add your name and member ID to each voucher prior to giving it to a new member. After all, what are friends for?

If applying online, use discount code “MyFriendMPI” and enter the current member’s name in the “Referred by” field.

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the last two years, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

Now, more than ever, your MPI membership can provide the connections and industry relationships you need to move forward toward recovery.

Interested planners can apply here.

Are you interested in getting more involved with MPIGNY? Volunteering with a committee is a great way to meet new clients and industry partners! Visit our website or click the link for more information on how to get involved.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
