MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

Hello –

Welcome to the last month of the year! Although 2021 wasn’t quite what we expected, we continue to move forward toward togetherness and out of the isolation of the pandemic.

The weekend before Thanksgiving, the all-volunteer board of directors gathered at Mohonk Mountain House for our first in-person retreat since January 2019. The ability to be in one room, creating strategies and plans to move this chapter into the next year while bonding was inspiring. There are great things in store, and we commit to our membership to continue to deliver programming and services that you value.

As you know, our chapter runs on the dedication and passion of our volunteer members. We have several opportunities available across all facets of the chapter. Whether you want to learn a new skill or hone an existing one, whether you have an hour or lots of time on your hands, we want you to be involved with our community. Committee descriptions and more information can be found here.

I hope to see you at the Industry Holiday Celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 8 or at our volunteer kitchen shift at God’s Love We Deliver on Thursday, Dec. 9.

Best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year!

Yours in hospitality –
Laura

Join us for a rocking night to celebrate the holiday season at one of New York’s historic landmarks, the newly renovated Irving Plaza. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes for the mega-talented musical group, Paris NY. We’ll enjoy delectable bites courtesy of Mustang Harry’s and capture fun moments with friends and colleagues at Incinerator Media Group’s photo booth. Delight in the holiday décor from Starbright Florals and find your way to a special guest who will be “coming to town” that night, plus many more fun surprises. Raffle proceeds will benefit New York Cares Coat Drive.

When we say All Industry Holiday Party, we mean it! Several of our New York Chapter Hospitality Associations will be participating in this event: ILEA, PCMA, NYSAE, NYC & Company, SKAL, Live Events Coalition and SITE. You won’t want to miss this one, so let’s 'Celebrate the Season …Together Again'!

MPI Greater New York Chapter is proud to partner with Together We Rise on Tuesday, Dec. 14 for a virtual service project — decorating Sweet Cases. When children enter foster care, they are usually given two trash bags to hold their belongings. The Sweet Case program provides duffle bags and basic necessities to help ease this problem, showing children in foster care that they are supported and loved.

Together We Rise is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization comprising motivated young adults and former foster youth. Their vision is to improve the lives of children in foster care, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. They collaborate with individuals, companies and community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system.

The CSR Committee will host a Zoom meeting for participants to network and decorate the panels together online. Registration is now closed to ensure all participants receive their materials well in advance of the Dec. 14 online event.

The Past 30...

We were thrilled to host our annual Auction & Mixology Madness event in-person on Nov. 3 at the Hard Rock Café New York. With thanks to our amazing sponsors, silent auction donors and bidders as well as the attendees, we raised almost $15,000.

We would like to thank our venue sponsor – Hard Rock Café – for their continued support. We also want to thank Visit Austin for not only sponsoring a mixology table, but bringing us Love & Chaos all the way from Austin, Texas, to perform live.

Thank you to key speakers for sponsoring our online auction platform, Fun Corporate Magic for the emcee and magical entertainment and SimonProPhoto for capturing all the memorable moments. And we could not have done it without our fantastic mixology table sponsors: Mohonk Mountain House, Kalahari, Wind Creek Bethlehem and MPI Membership.

On Sunday, Nov. 21, we supported God's Love We Deliver in the yearly Race to Deliver. It was a wonderful feeling to be back in person after doing this run virtually last year. With a team of eight MPIGNY members, we were able to raise $2,852. Our in-person team consisted of myself, Micayla Diener, David Fletcher, Jeff Klein, Elliott Elner, who brought along his partner, Patrick Colomer, Jennifer Rondinelli and Jennifer Wellington. We had wonderful weather and a lot of fun supporting a great cause.

Check out this fun highlights video graciously provided by MPIGNY member David Fletcher of NY's Best Musicians.

Are you interested in growing your own career and maximizing your return on investment within MPI? Then join the MPIGNY Mentorship Program – The Power of Two either as a mentor or a mentee for the January 2022-June 2022 term.

This program is designed to benefit both mentees and mentors alike by cultivating relationships that help individuals grow their careers. As referenced in this Forbes article, mentoring relationships can “push your career to a new height” and “deliver a rewarding and potentially life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.”  Effective mentoring happens when both the mentor and mentee assume responsibility for making the relationship work.

In this initiative, we will pair up a select few emerging professional members within the industry with seasoned subject matter industry experts for mutual growth and career development.

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the past 18 months, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times, we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
