MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

Hello –

How can it be August already? Summer is flying by as usual, and I hope you are all taking some time to refresh and recharge as we barrel into September. Staycations count! I’m looking forward to checking out the Van Gogh Immersive Exhibit and can’t wait to explore Little Island at Pier 55. I know we are all holding our breath, hoping that the rest of the country embraces the vaccine as strongly as the NYC metro area has. We all want to continue moving our industry (and the world) forward.

The MPIGNY Kalahari Annual Golf Outing on July 22 was a grand success. We ordered up perfect weather for our golfers and all of our generous sponsors. On the topic of generosity, we set a record this year with our raffle and 50/50. We collected just short of $6,000, of which one very lucky winner received half, and the remainder will go to support MPIGNY’s Community Fund, CSR activities and member grants. Thank you so much to everyone who opened their wallet and hearts to participate. More on the golf outing is below.

If you haven’t already, please plan on joining MPIGNY and members of most of the area’s travel industry associations at Summer Bash on August 17. The link to register is below. Not only will this be a fantastic night of networking, we will also be able to check out the brand new Margaritaville Hotel in Times Square.

Please check out the rest of the newsletter below to see our upcoming offerings, golf recap, CSR activities and more.

Yours in hospitality –
Laura

If this session time is not convenient for you, check out the God's Love volunteer calendar for more volunteer opportunities. With numerous sessions scheduled each day, you are bound to find one or two that fit your schedule!

If you are not able to volunteer, there are still several ways you can help!

The Cards of Caring campaign offers an opportunity to share a message of caring to brighten someone’s day. Many of GLWD’s clients are homebound senior citizens who, in this climate, are unable to have visitors of any kind. A cheerful note to let them know they are not forgotten can be a welcome reprieve from their solitude. The website provides guidelines on creating the cards, but feel free to be as creative as you would like. And if you have children at home, this is a perfect activity to help pass the time in quarantine!

In addition, God’s Love has two additional giving opportunities to donate much-needed funds.

COVID-19 Emergency Fund for clients of God’s Love: $54 funds a shelf-stable meal bag, and $100 funds a week of meals for a client living with serious illness. Please give what you can. Any amount helps!
Birthday Bake Sale: God’s Love bakes and personalizes birthday cakes for their clients living with serious illness. Your donation contributes toward the purchase of ingredients, baking, decorating and packaging of these special cakes.

We look forward to seeing you there!

The Past 30...

The 2021 MPIGNY Kalahari Resort Golf Outing was yet again one for the history books, but for different reasons than 2019!

After a year away from the event calendar, this year’s Golf Outing HAD to happen — not only because it is always a great event, but we wanted to give our Greater New York hospitality community a chance to get away from their home offices and come out and enjoy a day at the course.

Another exciting day at Harbor Links Golf Course, the annual event included 26 foursomes, dozens of qualified meeting planners and lots of great suppliers from all over the country coming into town for this can’t-miss industry event.

The newly introduced Non-Golfing activities, sponsored by PRA, brought even more meeting planners out to the course for what will be a permanent fixture for the day. The attendees gave back to the community, by building water filters with Wine to Water, enjoyed lunch on the deck with Accor and went on the “Journey of Scent” with Jo Malone, London.

The 2021/22 MPIGNY Golf Committee is already beginning preparations on next year’s event, so stay tuned for more details this winter!

Check out more great photos from the event here!

Chapter Opportunities

Are you interested in getting more involved with MPIGNY? Volunteering with a committee is a great way to meet new clients and industry partners! Visit our website or click the link for more information on how to get involved.

MPIGNY is interested in launching a Supplier Diversity Initiative test program and is asking for your thoughts. The goal of the initiative would be to identify and connect members who own or work for a Women Business Enterprise (WBE)* or Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)* to members who are actively seeking to diversify their global supply chain.

Find out more and complete our quick survey here. Now is your chance to be heard and help your chapter develop a meaningful and impactful DEI program!

The Cultural Collective Experience is an MPIGNY program designed to collect from members recommendations on books, podcasts, music, documentaries, movies, etc. with a diversity and inclusion focus.

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the past 16 months, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times, we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
