MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

Hello and happy summer –

Both “What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” played in my head as I was writing this, my first President’s Message. And boy are they both true! I am very excited to lead our chapter into the next year — a year of recovery and renewal, hope and promise. The pandemic has been an emotional rollercoaster for everyone, and although we are not totally in the clear, I think we have pulled into the station and can get off the ride for a while.

As we get back to in-person meetings, travel and tourism, it is the responsibility of all to advocate for our industry and lift each other up while we do that. What would make you a better meeting professional and how can you put that into action? It is my mission as we recover to see all of you, our members, re-engaged in our activities. The best way to do that is to volunteer with us. If you put action into this chapter, I bet you will become the better for it. You will have the opportunity to gain industry knowledge, score a bigger network, gain a circle of colleagues, enhance your career and probably make some really good friends in the process. Are you willing to take up the call? Yes? Great! Find out more about our committees and express your interest here.

Please check out the rest of the newsletter below to see our upcoming offerings, celebrate our Genie Award winners and more.

I hope to see everyone on July 22 out on Long Island for our Golf Outing!

Yours in hospitality –
Laura

We are just two weeks away from the long-awaited return of the MPIGNY Kalahari Resorts Annual Golf Outing! Did you register yet?

Join MPIGNY and Kalahari Resorts & Conventions as we return once again to Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, New York, on Thursday, July 22. No matter your golfing ability, please come along to enjoy a day of golf, networking and meeting new and old friends in an outdoor setting.

Not a golfer? Not a problem! Our generous sponsors at PRA and Preferred Hotels have put together a full day of activities specifically designed for our non-golfing attendees. Network with industry colleagues, give back with WinetoWater.org, and create a signature scent with Jo Malone. Then join the golfers for a closing reception and awards dinner before heading back to NYC.

PLUS ... Attendance for all industry planners is complimentary!

The Past 30...

What a way to kick off summer with our first live, in-person event at Ellis Island! Mother Nature agreed as she treated us to a beautiful, warm and sunny day for our attendees to enjoy the scenic sail to Ellis Island kindly provided by Statue City Cruises. Everyone gathered on the balcony overlooking the historic Registry Room where our luncheon was beautifully set courtesy of Party Rental Ltd. Networking ensued as friends and fellow members caught up on the past year while sipping on wine and delighting in a delectable Bento Box lunch provided by Great Performances. While many were relishing in the face-to-face interaction, some still had business to attend to — made possible by Wizard Studios who provided our WiFi connection. Many thanks to Patti Golden and Evelyn Hill Inc. for hosting us at Ellis Island and making this event unforgettable!

This year's Genies Awards were held at the marvelous Tribeca Rooftop. It was a labor of love as our planning committee navigated the waters of creating an in-person experience after a year of virtual events. The outcome was a breath of fresh air with our members and leadership reuniting to celebrate our accomplishments of the past year and revel in the industry finally moving forward. The evening began with passed appetizers and cocktails while jazz music provided by New York's Best Musicians filled the room. Sketch artists from Drawing Booth created a unique artistic experience as they mingled throughout the crowd. After the ceremony, the rain stopped and the clouds parted, displaying a spectacular sunset over the Hudson River as we enjoyed delicious desserts (and more cocktails) on the rooftop!

Industry News

Last month, the Events Industry Council (EIC) published a comprehensive Risk Management Guidebook. The workbook was adapted from a chapter in the Events Industry Council Manual, 9th Edition, which is considered an essential resource for professionals who plan and execute events.

Chapter Opportunities

Due to construction in the kitchen prep area in the month of July, MPIGNY will not be doing a volunteer session at God's Love this month.

However, volunteers are STILL needed during this very critical time. GLWD is especially shorthanded when it comes to drivers (or walkers) delivering meals to the homebound. If you have a few hours to spare this month and can lend a hand, please register at the link below for any of the meal delivery time slots (or other sessions that interest you).

Help is always needed, and we thank you in advance for your time.

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the past 16 months, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times, we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.

The Cultural Collective Experience is an MPIGNY program designed to collect from members recommendations on books, podcasts, music, documentaries, movies, etc. with a diversity and inclusion focus.
