MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

The MPI Greater New York Chapter is off and running on yet another exciting year! Can you believe that we’ve been putting on events in the city dating all the way back to 1977? It’s truly incredible to be a part of such a historic chapter that has positively influenced so many careers over the last 40-plus years. With that in mind, the 2019-2020 board of directors is laser-focused on continuing that tradition by executing truly exciting and unique events for our members this year.

A key focus for the board moving forward is going to be the engagement of the meeting planner professional. We consider sustained planner participation to be a vital part of this chapter’s success. So, with that in mind, we’re rolling out the red carpet this year with the objective of increasing our planner engagement at all of our events. Many thanks to the London Convention Bureau as they are graciously sponsoring several one-year planner scholarship opportunities that will increase our planner base and enhance overall engagement. Interested planners can apply here: London Convention Bureau Planner Scholarship

We’re also revamping pricing so all meeting planner professionals will pay only $10 to attend our networking and education events this year!

Our chapter has a bright future ahead, and we want you to be a part of it. If you’re interested in growing your own career and maximizing your return on investment within MPI, please feel free to reach out to any of us on the board as we’re truly here to help. In that spirit, MPIGNY is launching a mentorship program in which we’ll pair up a select few of our newer members of the industry (10 years or less) with some of our veteran chapter members for mutual growth and career development. The Power of Two: MPIGNY Mentorship Program will be a yearlong endeavor that we envision will be highly rewarding to the select few who are accepted into the program. This will be a minimal time commitment and something you’ll truly feel proud of!

Once again, join us at God's Love We Deliver for another impactful volunteer opportunity.

Kitchen Prep
Kitchen Prep (12-15 volunteers)
Work as a group in our kitchen on a variety of tasks with the guidance of our on-staff chefs.

Tasks may include packaging meals, chopping onions, ladling soup, peeling potatoes or making meatballs. Volunteers can also package meal bundles for clients and assemble children's meal kits.

Clothes must cover your shoulders, underarms, knees and toes (with closed-toe shoes). Watches, bracelets, dangling earrings must be removed. You can bring your own hat!

We ask all volunteers to arrive 15 minutes prior their shift for self-checking and a quick orientation.

After Six Mix is designed as a happy hour experience. It is not structured, has no fee, no requirements. It is about relaxed interaction with fellow members. Bring your co-workers and friends, interact with like-minded professionals. Enhance your circle of friends with others in this most unique sector.

This month, we will be gathering at The Standard, East Village in their new bar called NO BAR. Rest assured, there is a bar and happy hour drinks will be flowing! Our hosts will be offering extended happy hour drink pricing, light appetizers and an exclusive space for us to mingle.

This seminar will examine the role meeting design plays in responding to the challenge, as you plan meetings for 2020 … and beyond.

Key takeaways you will get from this session:

What is Auction & Mixology: This is an exciting two-component extravaganza where meeting and event professionals from the greater NYC area (Including New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and beyond) come to network, bid on cool auction items and participate in a fierce mixology battle where supplier mixologists mix up their original cocktails.

What do you get: As a supporter, we will provide your company exposure to all of our MPIGNY members as well as local meeting and event professionals in the Greater New York area as this event attracts more than just our membership. Your company name/logo will be displayed at the event as well as on our website and in our social media outlets. Last year, we had over 200 people attend (55/45 - planner/supplier); this year, we are anticipating well over 225.

What to donate: We are asking for a donation of a service, item or experience — so hotel accommodations, certificates, show tickets, gift bags, really anything that you feel would be the perfect representation of your company's product and service. If you are able to make a donation, please email michellemarieadams@gmail.com.

The Past 30...

The 2019 MPIGNY Kalahari Resort Golf Outing was yet again one for the history books, but for different reasons than 2018!

Despite the rain and soggy course, it was yet another great and exciting day out on Long Island at Harbor Links Golf Course. The annual event included 34 foursomes, dozens of qualified meeting planners and lots of great suppliers from all over the country coming in town for this can’t-miss industry event. The night before the outing, the MPIGNY Golf Committee kicked off the festivities with the third annual "Practice Round" reception at the Dear Irving on Hudson. The reception was sponsored by STOP: Spain Meetings & Incentives. The Practice Round was a great way to kick off the event and was well-received by all in attendance.

The 2019/20 MPIGNY Golf Committee is already beginning preparations on next year’s event so stay tuned for more details this fall!

Did you know that MPI can help you cover costs for a preferred MPI membership and help fund your MPI Academy courses (including CMM, HMCC, Experiential Event Series, Meetings Essentials, Basics Boot Camp and more)?

Yes, it’s possible. The MPI Foundation provides MPI members professional development and career opportunities through grants and scholarships. MPI Foundation scholarships are accepted on an ongoing basis. Applications received by the end of the month will receive notification by the end of the following month. Conference scholarships do not typically follow the normal application cycle but will be reviewed each month.
