MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

Happy May, MPIGNY!

The past 30 days with MPIGNY were all about corporate social responsibility! We kicked off the month celebrating Global Meetings Industry Day on Thursday, April 4. The successful programming, in participation with PCMA, Site Northeast and ECPAT, discussed the important role our industry has on ending human trafficking. Later in the month, MPIGNY headed to the kitchens of God's Love We Deliver to help prepare delicious and nutritious meals for our neighbors in need. Unable to join us in April? We will be visiting the kitchen again on Tuesday, May 14 and the link to register is below.

Join us this Monday, May 13 for a pop-up education program as we gather to learn more about principles of mindful leadership!

As summer is just around the corner, join us for our Summer Kick-Off on Wednesday, May 22 at Gansevoort Hotel - Lelie Rooftop.

Do you know an all-star member of our chapter who deserves special recognition? Do you love one of the committees? We are happy to announce the 2018/2019 Genie Award nominations are now open! Please find the link below for the nominations form!

Are you interested in joining a committee? We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our group! Whatever your availability allows you, there is certainly a home for you within the committees!

Join us Monday as we explore how we can become more effective, thoughtful and productive leaders. Based on the scientific research on mindfulness, our speaker will provide the tools you need to help create a more positive work environment.

Mindful leaders provide constructive feedback balanced with a healthy dose of appreciation. This program will deliver useful tips on how to create an atmosphere where the contributions of co-workers are appreciated instead being viewed as a threat.

Learner Outcomes:

  • Leaders and the workforce will understand the importance of appreciating
    each other’s contributions.
  • Discover techniques on how we can be more mindful about our communication,
how it might be received and the way we deliver the message.
  • Learn how to manage emotions during heated situations.
  • Audience will understand the value of leading by example to inspire others.
  • Leaders or those aspiring for leadership will understand the value of humility
    in leading.

About Our Speaker: Pandit Dasa is a mindful leadership expert. He has spoken on mindful leadership and conducted workshops at Google, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, Citi, State Farm, Bank of America, Nationwide, Intel, Novartis, The World Bank, UBS, Royal Bank of Canada, AMC Theatres, UNICEF, Bank of Montreal, AMC Networks, Harvard, Columbia University and many other institutions. He has also presented at the World Government Summit in Dubai, SHRM National Convention, SHRM Arkansas, Oracle HCM Conference, ATD2018, LEAD2017 and the WorkHuman Conferences.

In his book, Urban Monk, Dasa writes about the turning point in his life that came after his family lost their multimillion-dollar business, which ultimately led to him living as a monk for 15 years in New York City.

The Past 30...

On behalf of MPI Greater New York, PCMA New York and SITE Northeast, thank you for attending our GMID Education & Engagement Day. We hope you found the presentation enlightening, empowering and that you walked away with a better understanding of how our industry can help combat human trafficking. A group of 135 meeting professionals gathered at Convene at 730 Third Avenue in New York to celebrate GMID (Global Meetings Industry Day) and to discuss this sobering but relevant topic.

Thank you to Convene at 730 Third Avenue for hosting our meeting. Check out their artcile on how we are making an impact on our industry and communities here: "Making an Impact at Convene on Global Meetings Industry Day"

You can also view photos from the event here: GMID Event Photos

On April 23, we had a great turnout for our After Six Mix at Célon, a gorgeous Mediterranean-inspired cocktail lounge located off the lobby of the Bryant Park Hotel. It was a great way to continue a new fresh season of After Six Mixes with a lot of new business connections made.

Thanks to Célon for being such a fantastic host! This luxury oasis in the heart of midtown is an international design-award-winning space featuring one-of-a-kind lanterns, authentic Moroccan textiles and domed ceilings. Featuring an open, yet intimate layout Célon is ideal for corporate receptions, social gatherings, parties and more.

Did you know that MPI can help you cover costs for a preferred MPI membership and help fund your MPI Academy courses (including CMM, HMCC, Experiential Event Series, Meetings Essentials, Basics Boot Camp and more)?

Yes, it’s possible. The MPI Foundation provides MPI members professional development and career opportunities through grants and scholarships. MPI Foundation scholarships are accepted on an ongoing basis. Applications received by the end of the month will receive notification by the end of the following month. Conference scholarships do not typically follow the normal application cycle but will be reviewed each month.
