MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President
Summer is finally here and that means a brand new slate of directors is coming into MPIGNY to help serve our membership. A huge thank you to all of those who are leaving our Board after an amazing 2014-2015 year. Your dedication and commitment to MPIGNY is so appreciated by everyone. Thank you!

Speaking of summer, don’t forget to sign up for our annual golf outing on Thursday, July 16 at the beautiful Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, Long Island ... a great day of golf for all. If you can't make that, then be sure to join us on July 22 for our summer edition of After Six Mix at SPiN.

Regardless of where we see you, enjoy your summer!

The Next 30...And Beyond
The 24th Annual MPIGNY Hard Rock Cafe Golf Outing will take place on July 16. If you haven't attended this event in the past, you may want to put it on your calendar. With more than 200 attendees, this is one of MPIGNY's signature events, and it raises money to fund a variety of chapter projects.

This year's Marquee Sponsor is The Hard Rock Café. It, along with more than 25 other suppliers, has made a major commitment to our chapter, and you can show your appreciation by coming out and joining in the festivities.

Please don't feel that you have to be a good golfer to participate ... any and all skill levels are welcome. It's all about the networking with clients and colleagues that makes this event such a huge success. And, if you are a planner, we have suppliers that would love to sponsor you. Just call Kathie Stapleton and she'll match you up.

We also do a 50-50 raffle at the event, and this year we have some great prizes, including a private box for the Billy Joel concert at MSG, a golf weekend including air and much, much more. We also will be auctioning off one very special prize – a private tour of the White House for two people, including round-trip Amtrak tickets, overnight accommodations in D.C., dinner at a four-star restaurant and a limo to take you around in style. There are still a few sponsor and player opportunities available. For more information, call Kathie Stapleton at 914-762-1456.

Attending WEC in San Francisco? Please join us at our next After Six Mix ... Networking Unplugged on July 22 where you can meet and mingle with other attendees before boarding that plane. This event will give you an exclusive chance to see who else from MPIGNY and beyond is heading to MPI’s Annual World Education Congress. This month, we will be gathering at SPiN on Wednesday, July 22 from 6:01-8 p.m.

About the Venue:
SPiN venues offer professional Olympic ping-pong tables, VIP private ping-pong lounge space, full-service catering and bar service, on-site event sales planners (or, as we like to say, ping pong provocateurs) to handle every detail of your event planning. We also offer access to professional ping-pong players to enhance any event experience, organize tournaments or simply for instructional lessons.

The Past 30...

The 4th Annual MPIGNY Genie Awards was a packed evening of celebration and recognition held at B.B. King Blues Club and Grille. The evening could not have been a success without the generous support of our Marquee Sponsor, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions.

The evening began with a special President’s Reception for the nominees, their guests, and past, present and future chapter leadership. The jazz-inspired decorated room with furniture provided by CORT then filled with more than 100 of MPIGNY’s finest planners and suppliers who were busy catching up with old friends, networking and meeting new members. The awards portion of the evening kicked off with a special "Year in Review" video showcasing all of this past year’s educational and social events. It also included several interviews from members around Manhattan answering why they are part of MPI. The 70-inch widescreen TV provided by Advanced Staging Productions really helped the video and presentation come to life.

Our emcee for the evening, Matt Haze, led the crowd through the evening. Carvie Gillikin, the chapter president, thanked the outgoing board for all their efforts and hard work, including achieving the highest membership survey score of 8.49. Frank Stapleton, a 30-year milestone member and past president, installed our new and growing board of directors. We then celebrated many of our members who were celebrating milestone anniversaries from five years all the way up to five members celebrating 30 years.

The evening continued where several of our chapter’s finest were awarded for their achievements this past year. We also had a special thank you for Carvie Gillikin and Meghan Schilt, who both served 18-month terms as president to help jump-start our chapter in a successful direction. After the awards, the evening continued with a delicious food spread, fun photo booth from SureShot, and a very entertaining cover band from Total Entertainment. A special thanks to the Genies Committee for all of its hard work! In case you missed out, be sure to keep the 5th Annual Genie Awards in mind for 2016 as this annual event continues to grow and showcase more and more of our chapter’s rising and veteran stars!

Nearly five years ago, Convene asked leading architects to tell us what the convention center of the future would look like. Today, the future they helped us imagine is here — and our guides proved to be remarkably prescient. Now, we look at the ongoing reimagining of the convention center. (Convene)

Industry and businesses nationwide who have not already taken the necessary steps to support the civil rights of lesbian and gay consumers will now need to take stock in their policies. The good news is that the hospitality didn’t wait until today to get started. (Social Tables)

Good planners are dedicated and focused with great negotiation skills, and a flair for creativity. However, those of us who love our jobs, are not content to remain "good" planners. We want to be great. (Event Manager Blog)
