Message from Our President
Dear MPIGNY Members, As we enter October, I want to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this month for several important causes that shape our community, our world, and how we lead with purpose and intention. First, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize the strength and courage of those affected by this disease. It’s a reminder of the importance of early detection and the critical need for ongoing research and support. I encourage all of us to engage in raising awareness, contributing to life-saving efforts, and supporting those in our community who have been touched by breast cancer. This month also marks the anniversary of the ongoing crisis in Israel. It’s a sobering reminder of the challenges faced by those impacted by conflict and the importance of compassion, peace, and unity. As leaders in the meetings and events industry, we play a role in bringing people together and fostering understanding across different cultures and backgrounds. Let’s continue to promote dialogue, support humanitarian efforts, and contribute to peace in our global community. Additionally, we conclude Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration of the vibrant contributions of Hispanic and Latinx cultures. This is a time to honor the rich heritage, diversity, and impact of the Hispanic community in shaping our society. I encourage each of us to continue recognizing and celebrating the many voices and stories that make our industry and community stronger. As your President, my intention is to lead with purpose, compassion, and inclusivity. These important causes remind us of the responsibility we have, to not only grow professionally but to also create meaningful change. In the coming months, MPIGNY has several exciting events on the horizon, offering opportunities to connect, learn, and lead with intention. Let’s continue to build a community that reflects our shared values of respect, collaboration, and mutual support. Thank you for your dedication to our chapter and for being a part of this journey. Together, we can make an impact that goes beyond our professional lives and touches the greater good.
MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS: THE DIRECTORS' DEN
If you learn something new everyday, you can teach something new everyday. Without an open mind, you can never be a great success. -Martha Stewart I have been working in the special events industry for over a decade, and love helping attendees and clients bring their meetings and events to reality by creating an unforgettable experience. I am currently the Event Coordinator at the Psychoanalytic Association of New York, a nonprofit organization which provides resources and continuing education opportunities for mental health professionals. I am also an Associate Event Producer at von Lila Creative, a boutique event planning company which specializes in fundraisers that promote human flourishing and the creative arts. The latest projects I'm currently working on at von Lila include the Walk Around New York and the Petite Gala. Additionally, I serve as part of the catering staff with Cutting Edge Elite, a third-party staffing agency which handles food and beverage needs for a wide variety of events throughout the tri-state area. I am honored to have worked alongside some of the best and brightest planners and event professionals throughout New York City, at some of the most iconic venues throughout the area. When I am not working on events or networking, I enjoy traveling to new cities and countries around the world. I am fascinated by different cultures from around the world and their history. In a new destination, I like viewing unique styles of architecture and enjoy taking photos of picturesque landscapes and seascapes. At home, I enjoy cooking and learning about food and experimenting with new recipes. I enjoy the challenge of trying new forms of exercise and fitness, but dancing is still my favorite! I've always been obsessed with music of varying genres, and love creating playlists (even if it's not for an event). When my schedule allows, I always enjoy a good concert. An epic live performance from a favorite band or artist never gets old.
I have been an active member of MPIGNY for a little over three years. It is great to make connections and cultivate friendships with other people in the industry who share the same passion for planning events and hospitality. Serving on the board as Director of Fundraising has opened my mind and given me practical experience in planning fundraising events and managing committee members, which I am now carrying into my actual work outside of MPI. When I was in need of a new role, a connection from the chapter was able to provide a contact which provided me the opportunity at the perfect time. The Power of 2 mentorship program was a great tool to learn from more seasoned professionals. Having a mentor was helpful to me to have a sounding board to share ideas with, and a resource when I needed guidance. I truly want everyone to be as successful as possible in whatever they choose to do. I hope MPI can serve as a great network for fellow event professionals so they can learn through constructive criticism and practical experience by being on the board or serving on a committee. I also hope the educational and networking opportunities that this chapter offers will position new members to find the right people and the right resources within the chapter that will help them to thrive in their career and reach their fullest potential as event and meeting professionals.
