Now that the province is fast-tracking adoption of the 2020 building codes, there will be a lot of confusion as to how this will affect the mechanical trades. Do you have any advice on how to manage these changes?

Dear Building Code Confused,
Thank you for highlighting this inevitable confusion for contractors and consultants alike. Government’s News Release announcing accelerated adoption of the 2020 National Building Codes, piqued the interest of Manitoba’s construction community. Focusing on harmonization across the provinces, provincial staff are reviewing Manitoba amendments for potential reductions. The goal is to have regulatory changes proclaimed and enforced ahead of deadline. Recognizing MCAM Members will need time to educate and adjust; MCAM is following the development of regulatory changes and arranging for members to engage with provincial representatives. Watch MCAM announcements for these opportunities.
