Dear Wise Wayne:

This past summer, MCAM forwarded a notice to contractors from the city of Winnnipeg indicating, "In response to increased customer demand and current staffing constraints, temporary changes in process have been put in place for commercial building and plumbing/mechanical inspections...Due to current demands for occupancy permits, the city will issue an 'Open-Ended Interim Occupancy Permit' (as applicable) to ensure ongoing response to industry requests and volumes. Both of these new processes relate to interim processes which will be audited for compliance, success and necessary modification."

I am wondering what actions the city has taken to address the demand and staffing constraints. Are the interim solutions still active?

Dear Stuck in the Interim,

Your question is timely and certainly on the minds of many contractors. MCAM is hosting a Lunch and Learn featuring Alana Crocker, acting manager of development and inspection division of the city of Winnipeg; and Rick Klassen, manager of commercial permits of the city of Winnipeg. Alana and Rick will provide an overview of the Inspection department and inspection process for the city of Winnipeg, followed by a short Q&A.  Register for the event and hear the latest from the city of Winnipeg and share your experience with fellow industry professionals.

Sign up for the Lunch and Learn here.

Signed, Wise Wayne
