National Conference News and Information
November seems like a long way away, which means there's plenty of time to start planning for the MCA Canada Annual National Conference.

This year’s edition is the 75th annual National Conference, and it will take place between November 14 and 17 on the grounds of Walt Disney World in Florida at the amazing Disney Yacht Club Resort.

Plan to bring the whole family. In addition to our usual schedule of courses, meetings and speakers, there will be plenty to do for the whole family. Tour the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and several water parks. Shopping, restaurants and nightlife are all available right outside the door.

Check out mcac.ca for further details and for registration information, and watch this space for regular conference previews and teasers.

Member Update
Big news for service contractors: BOMA Canada has agreed to promote the Mechanical Service Contractors of Canada's National Certification Program to its members. As a result, building owners and managers across the country will have lists of pre-qualified companies they can draw from to perform work on their buildings.

Your job: Get certified. Undoubtedly there will be a big rush among MSCC members to be among the first to earn this important certification. The sooner your company earns its credentials, the greater the competitive advantage it will have over those that haven't.

To learn more about this MSCC-exclusive certification program, visit servicecontractor.ca, call 613-232-0492 or email dsharkey@servicecontractor.ca.

Please take a few moments to complete a short survey about your company’s use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. We’d like to hear about any obstacles you face and any needs you have with regard to deployment and use. CanBIM and the Trades Committee, in which MCA Canada participates, will use the results to align future efforts and tasks to satisfy these specific needs.

Education and Training
Join us in Winnipeg on October 19–21 for the Construction Education Council's newest education program.

Delivered in conjunction with MCA Manitoba, the conference features three days of intense training by some of North America’s most talented and well-versed instructors. Participants will learn about themselves as leaders, managers and supervisors — all of which are key components for building strong relationships and effective leadership.

Attendees will also explore how to embrace conflict and see it as a valuable resource, as well as other topics such as working with a multi-generational workforce, considering ethics in construction, using effective time management, identifying trends in construction contracts, interpreting construction contracts, spotting future trends in construction technology, learning how to draw presence to yourself and understanding liens on government-owned lands.

Every year, the Construction Education Council and the University of Waterloo partner to offer the hugely popular, Gold- and Blue-Seal accredited Project Management Program.

Topics include project administration, scheduling, managing individual differences, safety, change orders, construction law, job cost controls, meetings and communication, dispute avoidance and claims, labour relations/due diligence and project completion.

Attendance is limited to just 24 people, and this event always sells out. Don’t delay. Register today.

MCA Canada's Charity of Choice
In 2010, MCA Canada joined forces with Operation Eyesight to help eliminate trachoma, a completely preventable disease that leads to blindness.

Since 1963, Operation Eyesight has prevented more than 35 million people from facing this needless tragedy. Their work is focused in places where blindness can be deadly, especially to those who are very young, old or poor.

Trachoma is an eye infection transmitted by flies and exacerbated by cultural and environmental factors. The most heart-wrenching fact about trachoma is that it, and many skin and respiratory diseases, can be eradicated with accessible clean water and basic sanitation.

MCA Canada continues to appeal to our members and the industry for contributions to help eradicate this curable situation. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far in 2016. Your dollars are making meaningful changes in the lives of people in the developing world.

For more information, visit mcac.ca, call the MCA Canada office at 613-232-0492 or email daryl@mcac.ca for your copy of the Operation Eyesight pledge package.
