November seems like a long way away, which means there's plenty of time to start planning for the MCA Canada Annual National Conference.
This year’s edition is the 75th annual National Conference, and it will take place between November 14 and 17 on the grounds of Walt Disney World in Florida at the amazing Disney Yacht Club Resort.
Plan to bring the whole family. In addition to our usual schedule of courses, meetings and speakers, there will be plenty to do for the whole family. Tour the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and several water parks. Shopping, restaurants and nightlife are all available right outside the door.
Check out mcac.ca for further details and for registration information, and watch this space for regular conference previews and teasers.
Be a sponsor!
MCA Canada’s conferences are recognized as world-class events in large part due to the generous contributions of our exceptional sponsors. If you would like to become a sponsor, check out this year’s sponsorship brochure, or contact Daryl Sharkey at 613-232-0492 or daryl@mcac.ca.

Big news for service contractors: BOMA Canada has agreed to promote the Mechanical Service Contractors of Canada's National Certification Program to its members. As a result, building owners and managers across the country will have lists of pre-qualified companies they can draw from to perform work on their buildings.
Your job: Get certified. Undoubtedly there will be a big rush among MSCC members to be among the first to earn this important certification. The sooner your company earns its credentials, the greater the competitive advantage it will have over those that haven't.

Please take a few moments to complete a short survey about your company’s use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. We’d like to hear about any obstacles you face and any needs you have with regard to deployment and use. CanBIM and the Trades Committee, in which MCA Canada participates, will use the results to align future efforts and tasks to satisfying these specific needs.

As the construction market continues to show signs of steady growth, firms are clamoring for talent and the secret recipe to retain the best of the best. Unfortunately, there is no secret sauce for finding the best in the business. Only the organizations that serve as a magnet will attract talent for the long term.

The Construction Education Council’s Computerized Mechanical Estimating course provides participants with an opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge to estimate mechanical project costs using Trimble Accubid estimating and graphical takeoff solutions. Participants will learn to apply proven principles and methodologies of mechanical (piping) estimating in an instructor-led, hands-on approach. The topics covered focus on key tasks of proven estimating methods such as: creating and applying estimate breakdowns, takeoffs of common systems and items, such as fixtures, equipment, drainage waste and vent, pressure and process piping. Participants will use Accubid Enterprise Estimating and LiveCount software tools during the course.
By the end of the course, participants will submit a bid along with their peers. The course is delivered over four consecutive days and blends face-to-face instruction with internet-based instruction.

The Construction Education Council and MCA Manitoba would like to invite you to the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg from October 19 to 21 to partake in three days of intense training by some of North America’s most talented and well-versed instructors. At our Building Tomorrow’s Construction Leaders Today conference, you will have the opportunity to learn a little more about yourself as a leader, manager and supervisor — all of which are key components for building strong relationships and effective leadership.
Attendees will also explore how to embrace conflict and see it as a valuable resource, as well as other topics such as working with a multi-generational workforce, considering ethics in construction, using effective time management, identifying trends in construction contracts, interpreting construction contracts, spotting future trends in construction technology, learning how to draw presence to yourself and understanding liens on government-owned lands.

Every year, the Construction Education Council and the University of Waterloo partner to offer the hugely popular, Gold- and Blue-Seal accredited Project Management Program.
This year’s session marks the 39th time the program has been offered, and to date nearly 1,000 people have taken the training. The program takes place over a 10-day period and is split into two five-day sessions. The first runs from November 24 to 28; and the second, between December 15 and 19.
Topics include project administration, scheduling, managing individual differences, safety, change orders, construction law, job cost controls, meetings and communication, dispute avoidance and claims, labour relations/due diligence, and project completion.
Attendance is limited to just 24 people, and this event always sells out. Don’t delay. Register today.

In light of the Diggens' Hike4Life fundraiser, and the great work that MCANL did to raise $23,000 for Operation Eyesight last month, we thought we'd encourage all members to host their own fundraisers for MCA Canada's Charity of Choice.
On the Operation Eyesight website, you'll find a Fundraising Toolkit that provides everything you need to plan and execute a successful event — and one that will help raise money for the charitable cause.
Check out the toolkit and start planning your fundraiser today!
