Initiated by the World Plumbing Council and supported enthusiastically by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada, World Plumbing Day celebrates the important role plumbing plays in the health and safety of modern society.

Founded in 1931, the association celebrates 50 years of incorporation in 2016. It’s not every association that earns the right to celebrate a half century in business, so the Mechanical Contractors Association of Ottawa is going to mark the occasion in style. The association was actually founded on June 18, 1931. In those days, it was known as the Ottawa Master Plumbers’ Association. The association’s early work then was with the City of Ottawa. Sewer explosions were becoming increasingly common—and dangerous—around town. One of the association’s first recorded activities was to meet with city officials to change the plumbing by-law and make the city safer.
