Countdown to Federal Election 2015

There are just

left before Canada goes to the polls in the 2015 federal election.

Get out and vote on Monday, October 19!

The election is still a close race — so we need to keep the pressure up regarding payment delays.

The construction industry is distinct from other industries because of its complex system of contracting and sub-contracting. The system maximizes the benefits of specialization. However, to function it requires that cash flows through its many levels. Any interruptions in the payment flow cascade through the chain. This is why it’s imperative our government adopt prompt payment legislation.

To ensure each candidate in your riding — and their party leaders — understand the significance of this issue, please visit promptpayment.ca. Fill out and send the candidates the form letter telling them you want to talk about delayed payments in the construction industry.

Let’s get this done.

Growth in the construction sectors of cities such as Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton, and Winnipeg will contribute to modest economic expansion in those cities as 2015 wraps up, the Conference Board of Canada predicts in its report titled Metropolitan Outlook: Fall 2015.
What comes to mind when you hear the term 'temporary foreign worker'? You probably think of low-paid labourers brought here by evil profit-mongering corporations to undercut salaries and displace Canadians from their jobs. At least that's the direction your thoughts might turn if you have followed the recent political debates and media reports.
Although parents and youth say they believe career opportunities in the skilled trades to be limited, the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum published a new national report indicating the opposite is true.
Canada is seen as a global leader in the adoption of the P3 model, but there are a range of project-funding approaches rolling out across the country.
To support the growth of the B.C. apprenticeship system, the B.C. government now requires contractors and subcontractors to engage in apprenticeship training on new, major infrastructure projects.
The ENERGY STAR score provides a fair assessment of energy performance by comparing buildings' climates, weather and business activities. Medical offices are the newest building type eligible for a 1-100 ENERGY STAR performance score in Canada. With the new score, owners and operators of medical offices can quickly and easily see how the performance of their buildings stacks up against other medical office buildings in Canada.

A home heated by sand? It's just one of the enticing technologies being tested at the Urbandale Centre for Home Energy Research, a glossy name for a very ordinary-looking home perched on a sunny rise at the north end of Carleton University's campus.

MCA Canada's Charity of Choice
Preventable blindness is a serious health issue that affects more than 325 million people worldwide. The vast majority of those affected live in low-income countries like Zambia, where poverty prevents access to basic care and treatment.
You can help. MCA Canada has been working with Operation Eyesight for several years and has financed the drilling of dozens of wells and water points. The generous donations of our members have helped save hundreds, if not thousands, of lives. But there is much more to do.

To help, please visit mcac.ca/about/charity.
