It's the end of the week! Today we are supposed to hear from our out-of-town clients! While we wait, there's time to wrap up some of that paperwork and meet with our insurance rep. No one minds using up all those office supplies because Grand & Toy discounts help and besides...invoicing always makes us smile! Our rep from AON Insurance goes through everything, including some of the cool new programs. Looks like we've got everything we need and he even picks up lunch. The phone rings...it's the potential new clients...ok. That's right! YES, it's done and signed! Celebrate...you bet! Now that's what I call a great week!
Does it pay to be a member of MCA Canada? Absolutely! Enjoy the many benefits of your Membership Advantage Programs today. To find out more visit www.mcac.ca or contact the MCA Canada office.

Federal, provincial and territorial governments provide a number of incentives and supports, but employer participation remains a concern across the country. Your perspectives and ideas will help inform recommendations to the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship and the Forum of Labour Market Ministers. Please send your thoughts to emily@caf-fca.org.

In the coming federal election, headlines over pipelines, the environment, building bridges to Detroit, selling goods to Korea, China and Europe and the state of our economy will dominate. These are matters of immediate concern for every Canadian because they translate into jobs. But they are subtexts of the real story. The issues all connect back to one thing – the state of our trade infrastructure. That’s really what the next election will be about.

The Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance has taken the lead in coordinating a coalition of corporations, utilities and associations to address existing and outdated interpretations of the Income Tax Act. The section of concern deals with service, repair, retrofit and maintenance of buildings and has not been reviewed since 1985. The goal is to provide clarity of certain deductibility rules to enhance and broaden the interpretation so that building owners have an incentive to upgrade their buildings with more energy efficient products, while seeing some form of tax incentive. MCA Canada was represented among the more than 30 participants who met with dozens of Ministers and their representatives to provide further awareness of this project, as well as to continue to keep energy efficiency 'top of mind' in the federal government. It was the second such event and it was very successful.

Innovation and Technology
The world of technology is sprinting forward, and the construction industry needs to catch up. Just around the corner is a brave new world of clouds, drones, virtual reality, thinking machines and armies of computers. A recent survey of 1,000 companies revealed a disturbing lack of financial investment, interest and general savvy for technology that may leave many in the dust. For example, what we can do now is that cloud technology allows dozens of workers access to community documents for real-time editing from anywhere. In the future we could see drones that catalogue construction progress from the air, or augmented reality goggles that can plaster 3D graphics onto the real world to preview a structure, or mobile tablet sensors that can scan a room and create a 3D model in seconds.
