It's the middle of the week and we're off to the airport. Flying is always a pain but we usually leave the car at the local Park N Ride and it always makes things a little easier. They run us right up to the door and we save a bundle on parking. The meeting is excellent, a real moneymaker. All we need to do is wrap up the final estimate and it looks like we're a go! Back in the office today and time to crunch some numbers. The laptop cranks up and launches the Labour Estimating Manual so we can close the deal from yesterday's meeting and, hopefully, a few more. You know we saved $1500 on this software and its made life so much easier...not to mention profitable! We fire out the quotes all day and wait to hear the good news! Stay tuned for more...

MCA Ottawa accepts the 'Outstanding Philanthropic Group Award' for the association’s outstanding support of local charities, presented November 12, 2014, in Ottawa. In addition to its ongoing support of the Ottawa Food Bank, MCA Ottawa has extended support to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, Roger’s House, Algonquin College, La Cité College, the YMCA/YWCA and the Canadian Mechanical Contractors Education Foundation. The Board and membership actively participate in, and even organize numerous other charitable and fundraising events such as walks, runs, bike rides, golf events and ski events, including "Ride the Rideau" and the "24h Tremblant" skiing/cycling event. Members are also involved with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Ottawa Hospital fundraising events and hold volunteer positions on other boards of directors.

Republicans have vowed to bring the Keystone XL issue back in new year under more favourable conditions. The woman who almost forced United States President Barack Obama to make a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline stood quietly on the Senate floor as her plans went down in flames. Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu had pushed the chamber to take its first-ever vote on the pipeline after a half-decade of debate. The result was what Senate-watchers called the biggest nail-biter vote in years. She fell one vote shy of putting a pipeline bill on the president's desk.
The Canada Job Grant has been in effect for several months now. However, many students and employers have been facing challenges when it comes to gathering information about the program and the application process. On November 18, 2014, wwww.canadajobsgrant.com went live, providing an interactive webpage that helps direct users to necessary information. Under the Canada Job Grant, which was to be implemented by July 1, 2014, businesses can apply for funding to prepare workers for new or better jobs. The government has committed to pay up to $10,000 per worker, with the remaining $5,000 coming from employers.
Are Canadians unfairly criticizing vocational schools and apprenticeships while trumpeting universities and professional jobs? Jason Kenney seems to think so. He said as much during a talk Friday on the need for skilled workers in Canada. Kenney, federal minister of employment and social development, told a Halifax business audience that employers, governments and others need to encourage more young people to consider a job, or career, in the trades.
As part of its commitment to provide online services that are simple and easy to use, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has introduced a new service that allows business representatives to submit authorization requests electronically at their convenience.

To access this new service, log in to Represent a Client and look for the "Manage clients" tab in the "Review and Update" menu. For each request, provide the required information, have an authorized person of the business to sign the certification page, then scan and submit it to the CRA, which will process the request within five business days.
