Tuesday came fast and we need to tackle our remote project. We've got 4 guys on site for 3 weeks. The rental cars from Budget/Avis saved us a few hundred bucks and the discount we get with Choice Hotels saved us nearly $1500. We’re on time and under budget so I’ll leave things in their capable hands. Time to prepare for tomorrow’s meeting. Stay tuned to see how the rest of my week goes!
The next Regional Session for CanBIM Members will be held in Montreal on February 19, 2014, at the Montreal Convention Centre - Building owners and facility managers are discovering the value of BIM. The life-cycle benefits are immense when we consider the large amount of information that is stored in the model pertaining to every aspect of a building. When harnessed properly, this data can improve building performance, save time, effort and money in running and maintaining the building during its life cycle.

Federal and Provincial Governments Announce Apprenticeship Harmonization in Atlantic Canada - Jason Kenney, Minister of Employment and Social Development, and the Council of Atlantic Premiers announced that apprenticeship requirements in six new trades will be harmonized across the Atlantic provinces: carpenter, welder, metal fabricator, steamfitter-pipefitter, plumber and industrial electrician. This is in addition to work that has already started on previously announced trades. As a result, Canadians apprenticing in these 10 trades will have access to consistent training, certification and standards, leading to more job opportunities and greater mobility while helping address skills shortages in this region.

Innovation and Technology
Construction companies are quick to adopt new technologies because builders understand the productivity-enhancing power of tools. From drones to BIM to project information management software, this industry is showing its design and owner colleagues what’s possible. To raise the productivity of the entire industry, the trick will be to develop software that architects, engineers and owners want to use as well.
