September 30 - October 2, 2014 in Edmonton, AB - As technology, best practices and the industry's aptitude advance, how will BIM shape the AECOO industries over the next decade? The CanBIM-aceBIM Super Session will examine current and future BIM trends with a focus on Facilities management, Collaboration, Procurement and More!

The Government of Canada, in partnership with the provinces and territories, will improve foreign credential recognition for 10 additional priority occupations including the skilled trades and health care. The 10 new priority occupations are: geoscientists, carpenters, electricians, heavy duty equipment technicians, heavy equipment operators, welders, audiologists and speech language pathologists, midwives, psychologists, and lawyers. These occupations are part of a national framework that aims to streamline foreign credential recognition for priority occupations. For priority occupations, service standards are established so that internationally trained professionals can have their qualifications assessed within one year, anywhere in Canada.
Employment Minister Jason Kenney is apparently making progress with the provinces in his efforts toward a harmonized approach to apprenticeships. At a recent meeting with provincial and territorial labour ministers in Charlottetown, Kenney sought a clear commitment on apprenticeships and a specific timeline to facilitate labour mobility between provinces for skilled tradespeople...
Public Works and Government Services Canada along with Employment and Social Development Canada are asking contractors who have worked or wish to work on federal government construction contracts to complete an online survey on their practices with respect to the hiring of apprentices. They are asking participants to complete the survey by August 18, 2014.

The Canadian Mechanical Contracting Education Foundation (CMCEF) proudly presents the exclusive CMCEF Gold Seal and Blue Seal Accredited Project Management Program. The highly acclaimed program is offered in partnership with the University of Waterloo. The program takes place over a 10 - day period and is split into two 5-day sessions. This will mark the 36th session offered, with more than 700 industry managers graduating from the program.
The Canadian Mechanical Contracting Education Foundation (CMCEF) proudly presents the exclusive Gold Seal Accredited Supervisory Program. After much research and countless hours of collaboration with many experts, CMCEF feels that it has the most comprehensive Supervisory program available to the construction industry. This program will take place over a 7-day period and will be split into three sessions; the first will be 3 days, the second and third sessions will be 2 days each. The target audience is foremen superintendents working in a supervisory capacity for construction contractors.
Innovation and Technology
A new partnership between Apple and IBM will target enterprise customers and be in direct competition with embattled mobile firm BlackBerry, which is trying to solidify its position catering to government agencies and businesses.
There is much talk of delayed productivity. One of the safest methods for improving organizational productivity is to utilize information technologies (IT) to optimize business processes. Now, due to the omnipresence of the Internet, technology is within everyone’s reach, and small and medium-sized businesses can take advantage of this. There are a number of ways to use IT, but let’s look at four advanced concepts which, in our era, are virtually indispensable.
