Canada’s construction industry will need to attract more young people and workers willing to move from other provinces, regions and countries to meet its changing labour force needs, according to a new labour market forecast released today by BuildForce Canada. "As major projects gear up and wind down, building a new and mobile workforce is an industry priority," said Rosemary Sparks, Executive Director of BuildForce Canada. "This will help fill the skills gap, as up to one-quarter of the construction workforce retires over the next decade." The 2014-2023 Construction and Maintenance Looking Forward forecast released by BuildForce Canada, shows strong labour demands continue in the West as some markets slow in the East. As a result, more workers from other provinces and countries are needed, especially during peak periods.
On June 20th, 2013, a State of Emergency was declared throughout Alberta as extensive flooding impacted many, many communities across the province. The Red Cross reacted by providing registration and inquiry services to individuals evacuated from their homes, mobilized personel and supplies such as cots, hygiene kits and blankets. In addition, emergency shelters were opened. Of course, member companies and individuals across the country reacted, as did MCA Canada, by contributing money in support of this tragic event. Thankfully, by July 2 downtown Calgary was fully reopened and the disaster moved from emergency response to early recovery. Our thanks to everyone for their tremendous support during this difficult time.
The latest editions of CSA B51 Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Pressure Piping Code and CSA B52 Mechanical Refrigeration Code have new requirements. CSA offers training that will increase your understanding of these changes and help ensure that you meet jurisdictional requirements.

The self-paced, online training addresses the most recent updates in both Codes. CSA offers two options to suit your learning needs: purchase the online course in its entirety or choose just to review Clause 12-Pressure Relief Devices and Clause 13–In-Service Inspection as an individual module.

Budget 2014 Introduces New Tool to Meet Canadian Labour Needs – The Expression of Interest System: Key to enhancing Canada's immigration system, to make it flexible and focused on meeting labour market needs, will be the introduction of an Expression of Interest (EOI) system, according to the federal government's Economic Action Plan 2014. The government stated it will provide $14 million over two years and $4.7 million per year afterwards on an ongoing basis to launch the EOI as a new recruitment model in January 2015.
