ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The MCAC Whistler Conference features a great number of very high-level speakers and panelists whose knowledge will give you an opportunity to change, adjust or perhaps even reinvent some of your practices.

Topics that will be covered include: high building performance, industry performance through best practices, the impact of cannabis legalization on workplace policies, perception vs. reality in the decision-making process, and the industry’s growing dependency on mobile apps.

Networking is also a key component of the conference. Make new acquaintances whose backgrounds can also be impactful for your operation.

See you in Whistler!

Member Update

There’s a lot of talk about community benefits in construction these days. The federal government has proposed a bill that would require contractors to provide information on projected social, economic or environmental benefits before awarding construction contracts on federal projects.

The reality is, contractors make meaningful contributions to their communities in all sorts of other ways, every day. Here’s one story about how a group of MCA Canada members helped out a local community centre in need.

Congratulations to all the recipients of the 2018 CEC scholarship program. Several MCA Canada associate members stepped forward to make our scholarship purse even larger this year. Thanks to all our sponsors for their generosity.

INDUSTRY NEWS

In December 2017, the National Assembly of Quebec unanimously adopted a law authorizing the implementation of pilot projects to test two main mechanisms to facilitate payments on public contracts and related subcontracts — an obligatory payment schedule and a dispute resolution process using an adjudicator or expert intervenor, in an effort to resolve disputes in a timely manner.

The British Columbia government is matching donations to the Red Cross up to $20 million, and the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA), along with four regional associations, are teaming up to raise money for those affected by wildfires that are ravaging much of the province.
