This year the Royal Ontario Golf Course played host to the 13th Annual CEC Golf Tournament. It was a beautiful day with just a couple of short showers—which is pretty lucky for Ontario this summer. The golf course was stunning, the meals were second to none, and the highlight was meeting with old and new friends for a round of golf.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Canadian Design-Build Institute's conference will take place October 12 and 13 in Calgary with the Fundamentals of Design-Build tutorial being run on the 11th.

For 40-plus years the design of construction hard hats hasn't changed much—a brimmed shell attached to a suspended, adjustable headband. But that's changing as designs, first used in mountain climbing and other sports helmets, are adapted for construction workers.

INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY

Construction companies are seeing an influx of game design graduates and ex-gamers transferring their visualization and digital design skills from the virtual to the physical world.

It won't be long before we start seeing the construction industry adopt the cutting-edge technology already proving itself in areas such as retail and hospitality. For example, interconnected technology such as 360-degree video could track movements of workers, heavy machinery and equipment across the construction site, and automatically differentiate between them to know what assets are where – and if they are where they should be.
