Changes To Temporary Foreign Worker Program

Changes were announced to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. While these changes should have a minimal impact on the construction sector, for those employers using low-wage TFWs, caps will now apply. For example, if the TFW will be paid less than the prevailing median wage of the province, they will be categorized as a low-wage TFW. For these employers, a cap limiting TFW use to no more than 10 per cent of the total employer's workforce will apply. While this is disappointing, most employers should be unaffected. Furthermore, for high-wage and high-demand TFWs, the processing of their applications should now take on average no more than 10 business days. Click here for a summary of the changes.
