Each week in Just the Fax, we will profile one of the recipients of our 2020 Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series. This week’s recipient is Mia McDonald.

Mia, who is studying in the first year of the Mechanical Engineering Technician – Industrial Maintenance program at Fanshawe College, received a scholarship from sponsor Uponor.

She previously completed an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Guelph and hopes to one day pursue an MBA.

“I'm seeking this qualification to gain a more technical background, which I believe would serve to be very useful for a career in the construction industry," she says. “I’m hoping that gaining a mechanical engineering technician background will empower me to advance and take on more responsibility, earning more respect from others employed in this field.”

While working in construction, “quite often I was expected to learn the roles quickly and train the incoming personnel in them." That work experience, she says, "has inspired me to critically evaluate myself and take action so that I can be successful in this industry. I believe that acquiring this knowledge will help me achieve that objective.”

Mia’s mother is employed at MCAC member company E.S. Fox Ltd.
