LonMark Credentialing Institute: Certification Training and Testing Offered Online, Anywhere

LonMark International has launched a new LonMark Certification Training and Testing suite that now provides the industry with a more accessible and global program. The program is fully online and self-paced, which offers students the new courses in building automation and the ability to study and prepare for the LonMark Certified Professional (LCP) test in the comfort of their office or home. Additional courses in LonWorks, Smart Cities, SmartGrid and others are in development. There is no longer a need to travel to a testing center making the program substantially more affordable and accessible. The primary goal of the program is to create a proficiency standard helping to assure end users that they receive a solution that fits their exact installation and performance requirements. The building automation and refresher classes are currently available in English and the LonMark Certified Professional test is available in English, German, and Spanish with Japanese in development. CABA Launches Intelligent Building IoT Research Project

August 2016 --
The Continental Automated Buildings Association, through its Intelligent Buildings Council, has launched a collaborative research study entitled "Intelligent Buildings and the Impact of IoT". The purpose of this research project is to examine the impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) as it relates to intelligent buildings. The proliferation of IoT deployed in buildings has caused a dramatic shift from "siloed" building systems to interconnected systems of devices and sensors that have the ability to collect and share data within and across buildings. This scenario has created an opportunity to increase the efficiency, security, productivity, occupancy, comfort and profitability of buildings based on actionable data which can be analyzed remotely. The goal of this research therefore is to provide a comprehensive examination of all the major aspects of IoT related to buildings, including: the state of the market, trends, business opportunities, technical barriers and opportunities, future market direction, along with case studies and industry recommendations.

Case Study Showcase: Altos del Hipodrómo Neighborhood Home Automation In Madrid, Spain

August 2016 --
One of the most ambitious residential projects in Spain is the Altos del Hipódromo neighborhood, in which all 48 homes and private social club are automated, monitored, and centrally and remotely controlled. The client wanted to integrate all the various subsystems such as lighting, blinds, HVAC, heated doors, access control, intrusion and technical alarms in each of the homes and social club as well as street lighting that could be scheduled and controlled by sunlight intensity level. The ultimate goal is for the entire neighborhood to be connected to a central supervision station where the security personnel can manage all the home alarms and each home featured an intuitive HMI where users could watch and control all the subsystems of the house.

Smart Street Lighting Congress on November 3

August 2016 --
Smart Solutions enable cities to reduce their energy costs for street lighting by up to 80% and the maintenance costs by up to 50%. In addition, they help reduce CO2 emissions and "light pollution." How these systems work, new concepts and technology around street lighting and a look forward at the future of street lighting are among the topics of the Smart Street Lighting Congress on November 3 in Aachen. In an interesting mix of lectures and vendor sessions, experts will provide a broad overview of current and future-oriented system solutions, the current state of technology, and the most-discussed questions in the street lighting community. Vendors of smart street lighting solutions as well as energy experts of municipalities will talk about concepts, controls and secure communication of smart street lighting solutions. The Congress, with an accompanying exhibition, will take place at the TEMA Pyramid in Aachen. There are still a few speaking slots and places available for sponsors, exhibitors and participants.

Over the summer months in Arizona, electric consumption is especially high and sales are often down. No matter the season, however, restaurants use about 5 to 7 times more energy per square foot than other commercial buildings (according to EnergyStar.com), with family dining restaurants potentially using up to 10 times more energy. In fact, energy use often ranks fourth among expenses for restaurants and convenience stores, with lighting and refrigeration taking up much of the rest.

Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology Conference

Last month LonMark presented at the GEBT Conference, the premier platform for the electrical engineering, building and home automation markets in Asia. GEBT 2016 was held on June 9-12, 2016 at China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, and LonMark members Kevin Kwan and Eric Sun presented on Internet of Things Standardization, Becomes Smart City, Building, Streetlight and Backbone Network. GEBT 2016 was a well attended event that highlighted development trends for smart cities, energy saving and efficient technology as well as smart grids.

Case Study Showcase: Maciejow, Poland

June 2016 --
Poland’s Maciejow Motorway More Safe and Energy Efficient with LonMark-Certifed Smart Lighting System from Apanet The Highway Maintenance Department in Maciejow, directed by GDNRM, needed to upgrade the proprietary lighting systems in the A1 motorway section of Maciejow Motorway called the Sosnica-Maciejow and Gliwice-East Interchange. It turned to Arpanet to help design an open system that could work properly with controllers from different manufacturers. Founded in 2011, Arpanet is a member of LonMark International and one of the only companies in Poland that could provide an open and interoperable solution.

Case Study Showcase: Saint Priest City Decreased Energy Consumption by Up to 65% with Citylone

May 2016 --
In 2008, Saint Priest, a city located in southeast Lyon in France, was one of the first urban centers to trust a young start-up company named Citylone, a French-based designer and manufacturer of communicating automatisms for public lighting management. Seven years ago, Citylone provided the city with a system of 88 luminaries, all equipped with magnetic controllers based on the LonWorks® open communicating protocol to manage an urban lighting path. As a result, the city has experienced up to 65 percent decrease in energy consumption.

LIGHTFAIR International: The Future. Illuminated.

May 2016 --
Many LonMark International members exhibited at LIGHTFAIR, including BACnet, Echelon, EnOcean Alliance, Functional Devices, LG Electronics and Osram. Among them, Echelon demonstrated their connected lighting solutions, including LumInsight CMS, a central management system. Echelon also demonstrated a hybrid PL-RF control solution, using two cobra headlights under RF control and two decorative lights under power line control.

LonMark at CABA Intelligent Buildings & Digital Home Forum

CABA Intelligent Buildings & Digital Home Forum, was a great event that brought industry professionals from the Internet of Things, Connected Homes, M2M and Intelligent Buildings together to share insights and trends for the future in these areas. LonMark France: LonMark France would like to welcome Daniel Zotti as their new Chairman. We would like to acknowledge and thank our past chair, Serge Le Men, for his many years of support and guidance to LonMark France. LonMark France and Occitaline are joining LonMark Germany’s new working group focused on the new LonWorks protocol for IoT over IPV6. LonMark Switzerland: On April 8th LonMark Switzerland held their general assembly. During this event Chris Broenniman officially stepped down as chairman to vice chairman. We are pleased to announce Adrian Holderegger will fill the role as chairman. We would like to thank Chris for his many years of leadership and dedication. We are excited to welcome Adrian to his new role and look forward to future success for LonMark Switzerland. LonMark Cono Sur: South America's Emerging Market South America is emerging as a leader in energy efficiency programs with Argentina taking a leadership role. LonMark Cono Sur, our LonMark Affiliate in South America, is working on implementing LonWorks solutions in order to comply with a series of new policies to improve energy efficiency including: controlling the distribution of power to generation fields as well as electricity consumption by residents. Several US manufacturers who provide open protocol technologies used for smart cities, smart grids and Building Management Systems are looking to expand their focus to the South American market. These companies have joint venture agreements in place with local counterparts, which are also financed by government programs to develop open and interoperable control systems. This will provide local companies an opportunity to manufacture and export their products while taking advantage of a skilled local work force and opportunities for investment incentives. Most of these contracts will start up later this year, but there is a search for small and medium size regional companies with capabilities to work with open control systems either in software or in hardware. This is a huge opportunity for LonMark Cono Sur to implement LonMark technology for energy efficient programs across South America. Currently LonMark Cono Sur and LonMark International are investing in the LonMark Certified Professional program in Spanish with both training and proficiency credentialing. There are already over 100 LonMark Certified Professionals in Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean covering Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican, Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Skilled installers, designers, and integrators are a key focus over the next few years for LonMark Cono Sur. There are aggressive programs in development to entice suppliers of open control networking solutions to venture into this market. LonMark Cono Sur can help interested companies gain a foothold in this emerging market. New Control-Networking Standard for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

March 2016 --
LonMark International, with the cooperation of organizations: Echelon Corporation, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) Technical Committee TC-247 and LonMark Germany, announced plans to develop a new control-networking standard for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This new LonTalk/IP standard adds native IP addressing to the international standard ISO/IEC 14908-1 Control Networking Protocol and is a crucial element of control networking platforms that require connectivity to larger, enterprise networks and the Internet. The new standard will enable control networking applications to leverage standard IP infrastructure, IP network administration tools, and IP diagnostic tools.

Light Building 2016

March 2016 --
LonMark International and LonMark Germany had a strong presence at the Light Building show in Frankfurt, Germany, March 13-18, 2016. In the outdoor lighting hall, LonMark International showcased the "LonMark Open Smart Streetlight" booth, highlighting the only open and interoperable Smart Streetlight solution on the market. LonMark also recognized the 2015 Best of Year award winners during an evening reception. Case Study Showcase: ISDE, Celaya Guanajuato, Mexico

March 2016 --
Vivitare Casas in Celaya Guanajuato, Mexico, wanted the Marbella community of 104 homes to "shine" when compared to other new homes being constructed nearby. What it didn’t want was to spend so much to make that shine possible that they would make the homes prices more than potential homeowners would be willing to pay. The company tasked its information technology (IT) department with identifying technologies that would provide homeowners with quick solutions – and responses – to one of their main concerns: feeling secure – secure against robberies, water and gas leaks, and smoke and fire alarms, etc. The department decided to work along with Aditel Mexico distributor and representative of ISDE from Spain.

Devtech M2M Pte Ltd is a manufacturer of LonMark-compatible devices used in the various segments for Smart Street Lighting. Smart City Infrastructure products like Environmental Sensors, Lighting Presence and Ambient Sensors, Smart Energy Meters, Intelligent Lighting Controllers, Digital Lighting Controllers - (Ballasts) up to 2KW, EV Chargers, etc. (and various end points using the ISO-14098 Protocols). Case Study Showcase: Modernization of Street Lighting Systems in Tychy, Poland

The APANET Green System Ltd. created and implemented a new system in the city of Tychy. This Smart Lighting Control System project involved the modernization of the 1,150 lamps and replacement of 850 lighting poles and wiring on the 35 streets of Tychy. The project, known as SOWA, is an energy-efficient street lighting program, which was supported by grants and loans by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM). Tychy is the only city in this voivodeship (Silesia) that qualified for this project.

The New and Powerful LOYTEC L-IP Routers

February 2016 --
The well-known L-IP routers have been revamped and come out in new, even more powerful models with a "C": The LIP-3ECTC and LIP-33ECTC (one and two FT ports) and the LIP-1ECTC (TP/XF-1250). They provide all the standard features, including the built-in configuration server, enhanced communications test, backup/restore, remote LPA protocol analyzer, and support for DHCP and extended NAT. The new LCD display with jog-dial makes device setup easier. The two Ethernet ports can be operated in switch mode and allow a daisy-chain installation, which reduces cabling effort. Project documentation can be stored and accessed directly on the Web interface. A Wireshark packet capture can analyze the IP network and with the LWLAN-800 adapter the L-IPs can even operate on the WLAN! The built-in firewall and Web interface for installation using HTTPS make the L-IPs secure devices. By configuring separate IP networks on the two Ethernet ports, the building’s CEA-852 network on the LAN can be entirely isolated from the configuration interface on the WAN. This makes security hardening a simple task. For perfect integration into building management software such as the LWEB-900 by LOYTEC, the new L-IPs offer an embedded OPC UA server with full-featured certificate authentication. This server exposes important operational parameters as OPC tags. For enhanced maintainability by IT departments, the L-IPs also provide the same data through an integrated SNMP server.

New LonMark Bylaws

December 2015 --
One of the first tasks of our new Board was to approve modifications to the LonMark bylaws, which were recently sent to the LonMark membership for review and approval. Thank you to those of you that took the time to vote to approve modifications to the LonMark International Bylaws. The changes represent the most significant modifications since 2007. One of the biggest changes involves an expanded Purpose Statement for LonMark International to support activities beyond the ISO/IEC 14908.1 standard, such as the Internet of Things (IoT). Other modifications include: • A new member category called a Cooperative Member, that allows LonMark International to exchange memberships with other organizations. • Separates the roles of Board Secretary and Treasurer to support two individuals holding the positions. • Reduces the voting quorum to 25% of the members at a meeting • Eliminates the automatic appointment of a Director by Echelon Corporation and reduces the number of elected Directors from 12 to 9 or three per region. • Gives the Board the ability to appoint people to fill vacancies on the Board. Light+Building 2016 (13-18 March 2016) is the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology. LonMark International will continue its presence at Light Building 2016 by exhibiting in the Urban Lighting section located in Hall 5 of Messe Frankfurt. At Light+Building 2014, 11 members of LonMark International demonstrated an open Outdoor Control Solution to more than 500 potential customers. The demonstration showed LonMark certified products from several competing companies connected together in the same streetlight network. Because of the overwhelming feedback from member companies exhibiting in the stand, LonMark International along with members: Adic, Amko Solara, APANET, Citylone, Devtech M2M, Echelon, Flashnet, Vossloh Schwabe and Streetlight.Vision are pursuing a similar stand and demonstration at Light+Building 2016. LonMark International through its Ambassador Program was an endorsing supporter of the Shanghai Intelligent Building Technology Conference held Sept. 23-25th. Thank you to Eric Sun, our China Ambassador for presenting on outdoor lighting and the Industrial Internet of Things. LonMark is pleased to once again partner with Messe Frankfurt at this growing event and support the interest for open interoperable LonWorks solutions in the China market. LonMark International is pleased to welcome two new LonMark Ambassadors. Kevin Kwan joins the team from Hong Kong and will represent LonMark in the greater Asia market. Kevin has a long history with LonWorks in his prior role as Echelon’s Field Applications Engineer. Kevin will focus on training, education, and technical support of LonMark throughout the region. He is working with several universities to offer course work in LonWorks and expand the LonMark Certified Professional program in Asia and will also be offering technical support and guidance for new product developers. Jurgen Hertel, based near Munich, Germany, is our new European Ambassador with a long history of LonWorks related activity. He has been involved with LonWorks in Germany for many years, most recently through his work on safety based control systems and embedded solution platform development. He was a pioneer in the early days on LonWorks and knows many of the key market players from those days. Today, he is working with LonMark members to enhance the technical reach of LonMark’s standards and broaden adoption in several key markets.

Case Study Showcase: Retrofit Improves Energy Efficiency and School Learning Environment

September 2015 --
Allgemeine Gewerbeschule (www.agsbs.ch) is a vocational school and training center in the Swiss city of Basel. AGS has 250 teachers providing basic vocational training and advanced education for almost 4,000 apprentices across 50 different professions. During a comprehensive renovation of the exterior building facades throughout the seven-block campus, designed in the 1950s by the Basel architect Hermann Baur and listed as a historic complex, the interior underwent renovation for energy efficiency. The goal for updating the campus technically was to provide a modern learning and working environment for the apprentices and teachers, respectively, while satisfying the high expectations of the city of Basel regarding energy efficiency, sustainability and comfort.

The annual LonMark Board of Directors election concluded last week. We are grateful to our departing board members for their service: Mark Kendall, Kenmark Real Estate Group, Inc. Case Study Showcase: Black Bear Diner in Glendale, AZ

Over the summer months in Arizona, electric consumption is especially high and sales are often down. No matter the season, however, restaurants use about 5 to 7 times more energy per square foot than other commercial buildings (according to EnergyStar.com), with family dining restaurants potentially using up to 10 times more energy. In fact, energy use often ranks fourth among expenses for restaurants and convenience stores, with lighting and refrigeration taking up much of the rest.

DEVTECH M2M participated in the LumiBat, EuroExpo, located in Lyon, France from June 2nd-4th, 2015. DEVTECH M2M had a high profile presence at the show in an area where a large number of visitors gathered. DEVTECH M2M displayed a variety of product, such as dimmable electronic HID ballass, lighting control gears, addressable electronic ballast, surge protection devices, network couplers, and iStreet.Network software and gateways. Visitors from France, Morocco, Spain and Germany visited theDEVTECH M2M stand. The three day fair attracted attention from various players covering all segments of electricity namely hardware, LEDs, controls, software interface, smart city projects, ESCOs, consultants, start-ups and governments.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and LonMark International recently announced two new standards available for home and building automation. These standards provide multiple parties – including users, developers, vendors, integrators and specifiers of open building control systems – a mechanism to develop and deliver a higher level of device-to-device interoperability using any open control networking communication platform.

AGORA 2015

LonMark International through its Ambassador Program was an endorsing supporter of the fifth AGORA and Forum which were held concurrently with Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition - GILE and Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology - GEBT, June 9-12th at the China Import and Export Complex in Guangzhou. Thank you to both Eric Sun, our China Ambassador and Kevin Kwan from Echelon for presenting and leading a two hour Forum workshop: Simplifying Device and System Integration Specifications for Building Automation Systems to over 80 attendees. The Agora presentation: LonMark International Update on Open Control Networking for Smart Cities, Building, and Lighting Application attracted an equally large audience of over 80 people. The presentation and workshop gave participants new insight on smart systems using LonMark solutions for smart networked buildings and outdoor lighting systems. Once again the event proved to be a leading exhibition for the electrical engineering, building and home automation markets and we look forward to participating again next year. Case Study Showcase: ELKA LON System in the Kristall Tower on the Banks of the Elbe

In Holzhafen, Hamburg 39 flats with exclusive furnishings and panoramic views, were built in the 24- story residential tower "Kristall." Real Estate insiders estimate that the 4,300 square foot penthouse, with a unique view over the city and the Elbe River, is valued at approximately six million Euros making it one of the most expensive flats in Hamburg.

Consumer Electronics Association Standardizing Interoperability for the IoT

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), LonMark® International, and the UPnP® Forum are collaborating on new CEA initiative to help standardize interoperability for the IoT. CEA is looking for participants for collaboration. Together work is in process to develop an interoperability lexicon establishing device descriptors, or as LonMark calls them "profiles" to help foster greater vendor interoperability. Building the lexicon is the first step toward the development of a standard for XML device descriptions. CEA is seeking input from LonMark’s members to build upon the CEA 709.6 (LonMark Profiles, SNVTs, SCPTs, Enum Types, SPID) standard to create a lexicon for home automation interoperability. For those of you who have tried to create a smart home or develop an app with devices with multiple vendors, networks and protocols, you know how difficult it is. If all the devices come from a single vendor they probably work well together. If all the devices use the same protocol they may be interoperable as long as the manufacturer hasn’t added a feature that was not already standardized by the protocol developers. Unfortunately, most consumers buy individual products or systems and only later try to tie them together to create a smart home. That’s a challenge even for a professional installer and nearly impossible for the average consumer. In recognition of the problem, and in its role as a leader in consumer electronics standards, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has begun a new effort to simplify the task.

Case Study Showcase: ISDE- Altos del Hipodrómo Neighborhood Home Automation In Madrid, Spain

One of the most ambitious residential projects in Spain is the Altos del Hipódromo Neighborhood in which all 48 homes and private social club are automated, monitored, and centrally and remotely controlled. The client wanted to integrate all the various subsystems such as lighting, blinds, HVAC, heated floors, access control, intrusion and technical alarms in each of the homes and social club as well as incorporate street lighting control that could be scheduled and controlled by sunlight intensity level. The ultimate goal is for the entire neighborhood to be connected to a central supervision station where the security personnel can manage all the home alarms and each home featured an intuitive HMI where users could watch and control all the subsystems of the house.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), LonMark® International, and the UPnP® Forum are collaborating on new CEA initiative to help standardize interoperability for the IoT. Together work is in process to develop an interoperability lexicon establishing device descriptors, or as LonMark calls them "profiles" to help foster greater vendor interoperability. Building the lexicon is the first step toward the development of a standard for XML device descriptions. CEA is seeking input from LonMark’s members to build upon the CEA 709.6 (LonMark Profiles, SNVTs, SCPTs, Enum Types, SPID) standard to create a lexicon for home automation interoperability. For those of you who have tried to create a smart home or develop an app with devices with multiple vendors, networks and protocols, you know how difficult it is. If all the devices come from a single vendor they probably work well together. If all the devices use the same protocol they may be interoperable as long as the manufacturer hasn’t added a feature that was not already standardized by the protocol developers. Unfortunately, most consumers buy individual products or systems and only later try to tie them together to create a smart home. That’s a challenge even for a professional installer and nearly impossible for the average consumer. In recognition of the problem, and in its role as a leader in consumer electronics standards, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has begun a new effort to simplify the task.

Ambassador Update: 13th Wind Integration Workshop

At the 13th Wind Integration Workshop held in Berlin last month LonMark’s Ambassador, Sven Ruin presented on ‘Open Systems for Optimal Integration of Renewable Energy’. During the talk Sven discussed the development of new functional profiles for renewable energy, which is at a draft stage. The new profiles can be very useful for integrating solar PV systems and small wind turbines with building automation systems. Utilities Department of Nanhai District, Foshan City Works with Guangdong Rongwen Energy Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd to improve Energy Use and Reduce Costs Overview: Guangdong Rongwen Energy Science and Technology group is a leading ESCO company in China dedicated to providing intelligent LED street lighting solutions to municipalities worldwide. Rongwen is managing over 180,000 smart LED street lights, delivering improved energy-savings and lower maintenance costs. Rongwen retrofitted 14,051 units of LED streetlights in Foshan City, a prefecture-level city in the People's Republic of China’s central Guangdong province. The area under the city's jurisdiction covers 3,840 km2 (1,480 sq mi) and has a population of 7.1 million, of which 3.6 million reside in the city limits.

APANET wins biggest lighting modernization project in Poland

November 2014 --
APANET Green System Ltd has started a new project in the city of Bełchatów, Poland to modernize their street lighting system. The city is implementing the new energy saving LED street lighting and control system from APANET, using their LonMark certified GLC 100 controllers. This modernization project involves replacing more than 3,000 lighting points, making it the largest replacement project in Poland. The project is subsidized by The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM), a SOWA Program - Green Investment Scheme. This project is an excellent example of an energy saving street lighting system in Poland. This showcase project will serve as an reference over the next few years, as Poland pursues future modernization projects.

LonMark Germany is gearing up with a new board for today's challenges

Matthias Lürkens (Gesytec), Hans Symanczik (Kieback&Peter), Jan Spelsberg (spega) , Martin Mentzel (Mentzel engineering) and Jörg Seiffert (ARIGO software) form the new new Board of LonMark Germany. They were elected to the General Assembly on November 4, 2014. With the new board, LonMark Germany covers all of the major applications of LON. Jan Spelsberg and Hans Symanczik represent important companies from the building automation industry. Matthias Lürkens and Jörg Seiffert have extensive experience with LON-Cross-communication, LON Powerline technology, meter reading and web and Internet connectivity, which are used, for example, in applications such as street lighting, smart metering or industrial applications. Both also work actively on LON and the "Internet of Things" theme. Martin Mentzel is the technical expert for LonMark Germany. Utilities Department of Nanhai District, Foshan City Works with Guangdong Rongwen Energy Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd to improve Energy Use and Reduce Costs Overview: Guangdong Rongwen Energy Science and Technology group is a leading ESCO company in China dedicated to providing intelligent LED street lighting solutions to municipalities worldwide. Rongwen is managing over 180,000 smart LED street lights, delivering improved energy-savings and lower maintenance costs. Rongwen retrofitted 14,051 units of LED streetlights in Foshan City, a prefecture-level city in the People's Republic of China’s central Guangdong province. The area under the city's jurisdiction covers 3,840 km2 (1,480 sq mi) and has a population of 7.1 million, of which 3.6 million reside in the city limits.

LonMark Deutschland Prepares Collective Booths for ISH 2015 and Light Building 2016

LonMark Deutschland is sponsoring another member pavilions at ISH 2015 (March 10–14, 2015 in Frankfurt am Main). ISH is the world's largest show for energy-efficient heating and climate technology and renewable energies, with a large portion dedicated to building automation and energy management. Plans are getting underway for a LonMark Deutschland booth at the Light & Building tradeshow in 2016. LonMark members worldwide are invited to participate in the pavilion.

The concept of device and system profiles provides a simple way for systems to understand what’s available and how to interact intelligently. Update on Task Group Activities The Automated Food Service equipment task group is working on a new version of the LOV Fryer and is reviewing the Oil Supply profile as well. These updates are expected to be completed soon and go through the formal profile update process. The AFS group is developing these profiles using the new task group procedures implementing the working group concept for meetings within the task group. This is going well so far, as it streamlines the development meetings and task group efforts. A new sub-meter profile is also being proposed in the BAS task group. Formal task group work on this proposal should start soon. If you are interested, please contact the LonMark technical team to gain access for this task group profile project. Collaboration Tool To aid the collaboration of task group activities, we are testing the use of the Basecamp collaboration tool to share files and ideas and coordinate meetings.

Electric Vehicles Charging from the Street Lighting Grid in Brasov, Romania

Using the inteliLIGHT® remote management platform, Brasov is one of the first European cities to witness electric Vehicles charging directly from the street lighting grid. The technology, developed by Flashnet, makes it easy to attach EV charging plugs directly to the street lighting poles, while the charging management can be integrated in the same software application as the public lighting. Therefore, EV charging stations can be implemented everywhere in the city in a matter of months, without the need for extensive civil works. The integrated solution allows different payment methods (as prepay or post-pay), but the local authorities plan to promote Brasov as a cleaner and more responsible city by offering this service free of charge in order to encourage the local usage of electrical vehicles. Based on open protocols, the street lighting management solution provided by inteliLIGHT® offers complete compatibility and interoperability with multiple vendor agnostic controllers, sensors and smart city applications. To meet the requirements of the lighting management project in Brasov, Flashnet included in its final solution equipment produced by several Lonmark members: Apanet (environmental sensors), ADIC (electronic ballast with integrated control) and Echelon (smart servers and electronic ballast controllers) are integrated into the inteliLIGHT® system, ensuring that Brasov will have a state-of-the-art street lighting remote management solution and Smart City platform.

Case Study Showcase: APICE Access Control Security Systems in Metro Istanbul

APICE Srl, a well-known Italian company specializing in access control and building automation, recently completed an access control system based on LonWorks technology for Istanbul Subway. The branch expansion of Metro Istanbul Access Control System consists of about 200 gate controllers that manage shutters at station entrances, doors for entering tunnels at the end of a platform, emergency exit doors and doors of station rooms.
