The group learned about two active projects in the LonMark community studying wireless technology options. Avnet announced that it is working with the world renowned Fraunhofer Institute to study wireless channels for LonWorks technology. This project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The LonMark staff is actively evaluating several wireless technologies based on feedback from the last LonMark Board of Directors meeting that they would like to see a viable wireless channel available for the marketplace. The short list of potential technologies under consideration will be discussed at the autumn LonMark Technical Steering Committee meeting.
The afternoon session was dedicated toward moving the industry forward through interoperability where the group had a very productive discussion about expanding the European outdoor lighting market through collaborative marketing, education, neutral specs and industry outreach. The group is actively developing a street lighting portal whereby interested parties can get information about certified products, interoperability profiles, participating companies, case studies, white papers, specifications and other useful materials.
