Home Hardware and Tree Canada Donate Fruit Trees to Community Support Connections in Woolwich

To mark 30 years of partnership, Home Hardware Stores Limited and Tree Canada are proud to donate close to 30 fruit trees to Community Support Connections in Woolwich, Ontario. As a proud local business, this donation aims to alleviate food insecurity in the community and builds on the 30 Home Hardware Community Tree Plants held across the country this fall.

“Home Hardware and our independent Dealer-Owners have always prioritized giving back to the communities we serve whenever possible,” said Jessica Kuepfer, Communications Director, Home Hardware Stores Limited. “Donating and helping to plant these fruit trees to celebrate our 30-year partnership with Tree Canada allows us to build on that mission while also providing local residents with access to fresh produce.”

At the end of September, volunteers gathered to plant the variety of fruit trees at Community Support Connections in Breslau. The non- profit organization’s Meals on Wheels program serves the people of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and North Dumfries by delivering 300-350 meals per day and strives to enable people to live at home with independence and dignity.

“These trees will provide our Meals on Wheels program with fresh fruit Dorothy Pearce; Ed Borczon, Julia Swijters. sourced straight from our garden,” says Jerry Lawlor, Director of Revenue Development, Community Support Connections. “This year, Home Hardware donated over 580 pounds of fresh produce to our organization through their community garden, and we are excited to watch these new trees add to that contribution in the years to come.”

The donation marks a long-standing partnership between Home Hardware and Tree Canada that began 1992, when Tree Canada was founded. Since then, Home Hardware Dealers across the country have planted more than 30-thousand trees at schools, community parks, conservation areas, and in spaces that require restoration following wildfires, tornados, and other weather-related events."The impact our partnership with Home Hardware has had across so many Canadian communities is immeasurable. Not only has it been a catalyst to getting so many kids and community members involved in beautifying their communities, it also inspired people and organizations within our network to get involved,” said Nicole Hurtubise, CEO, Tree Canada. “Since 1992, Tree Canada and Home Hardware have worked together to plant and maintain trees in local communities across the country, creating a lasting legacy for present and future generations. We’re thrilled to be celebrating the longevity of what has been an incredible, 30-year relationship.”
