Popular IKO Shingle Line Provides Improved Wind Resistance, Meets FM Approvals Class 4

IKO is pleased to introduce CambridgeTM IR shingles with ArmourZone® - a tear-resistant, reinforced woven band that helps provide resistance to winds of up to 130 mph (210 km/h). The ArmourZone also provides fastening strength over a greater surface area of the shingle, helping to resist nail heads from pulling through the shingle in high winds.

These roofing shingles also feature a resilient, heavyweight fiberglass mat, which is fortified with an extra-thick layer of IKO modified asphalt — a thick coating that gives the shingle additional elasticity.

The new shingle has been tested against the FM Approvals Class 4473 standard for the assessment of impact resistance of new rigid roofing material. The testing process uses man-made ice balls propelled at new roofing materials with an air cannon to simulate the impact forces of free-falling hail, with each target location being impacted twice. Thereafter, the new roofing materials are inspected for visible cracking or breakage. IKO Cambridge IR shingles with ArmourZone have successfully passed this test and have earned FM Approvals’ Class 4 rating.

This type of testing has become an important criterion for some insurance companies to provide homeowners who live in certain areas discounts on their homeowner’s insurance. Homeowners should check with their insurance companies to see if discounts are available in their area.

Given the unpredictable nature of severe weather events such as hailstorms, IKO does not warrant or provide a guarantee of the impact performance of this product. However, the company is pleased to provide the rating for the sole purpose of enabling residential property owners to obtain a reduction in their residential insurance premium, if one is available.

Time-Saving Installation
With the addition of IKO’s ArmourZone technology, the already strong-performing Cambridge IR now also offers time-saving ease of installation for contractors.

"The benefits of adding ArmourZone are two-fold: It provides superior wind resistance to help avoid high-wind blow-offs, as well as easier installation for contractors." said Mark Okland, Product Development Manager, IKO North America.

Striking Design and Algae Resistance
Aside from their weather resistance and ease-of-installation benefits, Cambridge IR shingles with ArmourZone are beautifully designed to complement any home’s architecture, while also enhancing curb appeal for homeowners.

With their deep shadow bands and thick, dimensional profile, Cambridge IR shingles with ArmourZone can help homeowners achieve the highly desired look of natural wood shakes without their associated expense and maintenance worries.

The shingles are offered in six dramatic color blends that are engineered using IKO’s algae-resistant technology, including Charcoal Grey, Driftwood, Dual Black, Dual Grey, Weatherwood and the newest color, Earthtone Cedar.
