St Jacobs Home Hardware celebrated their new location with an official opening ceremony and ribbon cutting on May 13th. This celebration marks a historical moment for the company as it is the first time the original Home Hardware store has moved locations.

Now located at 1420 King St North in St Jacobs, the new store offers access to over 100,000 quality brand name and private label products as well the same expert advice and quality service that customers receive at almost 1,100 Home Hardware stores across Canada.

The original location across the street will be renovated in the coming months for the expanded Home Furniture store and will include a museum of Home Hardware history.

"We are excited to begin this new chapter in the Home Hardware store’s history." says Terry Davis, CEO, Home Hardware. "St Jacobs Home Hardware made the move to the new location to expand the merchandise offerings to our local community. We are eager to celebrate with our staff who look forward to serving the St Jacobs community with the same quality service and expert advice."

History of First Home Hardware Store:
Over 70 years ago, Gordon Hollinger purchased a blacksmith shop which carried hardware and transformed it into a wholesale business. The store was managed by Henry Sittler who hired Walter Hachborn to handle the sales portion of the business.

When Mr Hollinger passed away, Henry Sittler and Walter Hachborn purchased the store and expanded in downtown St Jacobs in 1961. Walter was concerned for the fate of the independent business owner and developed the concept of a dealer-owned wholesaler. He was joined by 122 dealers who purchased the business and hired Hachborn and Sittler to run it.

In 1964, Home Hardware was born and has grown in the past 51 years to an almost 5.7 billion dollar company with close to 1,100 stores across Canada with 3 million square feet of state-of-the-art distribution centres to serve them.
