Greetings and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great holiday season and stayed safe. The holiday season showed once again the importance of healthcare facility management, with many of us not able to take extended time off while we prioritized the safety of those in our facilities as they reached and exceeded capacities. I do hope that each of you was able to have some down time and some family time, either directly or though today’s technology of live remote meetings and calls. Our home has recently had four Zoom birthday/holiday celebrations bringing on to the screen family from three different states.

For me, this time was one to move from a reactive year of 2020 into a strategic year for 2021, where lessons learned and continuing education can become more proactive and planned. Along these lines, ASHE still is the healthcare education leader offering many pertinent learning opportunities through online education, webinars, seminars, etc. The start of a new year is always a good time to take stock of your professional goals, and there is no better place to start than the new personalized ASHE Learning Center – check it out! All ASHE educational resources can be found at https://www.ashe.org/.

I want to congratulate 2020 ASHE President Jeffrey Henne for an outstanding year and offer congratulation and good luck to three board members that will be missed – Sean Goings, Associate Member, Matt Royal, Region 5, and Ed Browne, Region 1 board representatives.

I also want to say that the KSHE had a great virtual 2020 Healthcare Coalition in October, and I enjoyed attending it tremendously. I want to congratulate Joe Taylor, outgoing KSHE President, for his outstanding leadership and for his friendship. He has had a great term, and KSHE has accomplished a lot under his watch. I have enjoyed working with him very much. I also want to welcome Martin Wheatley in as the new KSHE President. I know Martin will do great things and continue the outstanding line of leaders in the KSHE chapter.

KSHE was awarded the ASHE Chapter Platinum Elite again in 2020, making it one of only nine chapters to obtain Elite the past four years! Way to Go! Also, congratulations are in order for six KSHE hospitals for obtaining an Energy to Care award by reducing energy by at least 10% in one year! Truly outstanding work!

A new webinar was recently announced by ASHE - Energy to Care Success Stories – “Moving a Culture Toward Energy Excellence.” Learn how Atrium Health increased its ENERGY STAR score from 2 to 77 and was award as the ASHE 2020 Energy Champion with a focus on capital investments, staff development and a culture of efficiency. This is scheduled for February 10, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. CST.

Please make note that the 2021 ASHE Annual Conference is currently planned for August 1- 4, 2021, in
Anaheim, CA. I hope to see you there!
