Greetings KSHE Members,

I am just not sure where summer went! I believe that, in part, the monotony of the COVID routine and losing out on seasonal events like baseball, football, summer movie releases and conferences (the ones with travel) have kind of just made the days run together. When it comes to education, we continue to be in the midst of a marathon of learning and adapting. As you may have read in the President's letter, KSHE has continued to adapt as well and step up to the challenges!

In July, we helped coordinate a regional event: COVID “Where We Have Been and Where Are We Going?!" webinar with peers in Ohio and Indiana. We had Doug Erickson, FGI Guidelines Institute Executive, as our main speaker. From the feedback we received, it was a big success and helped us build relationship with our neighbors.

As with many, we are working on remote delivery for the balance of the year with educational events and our annual conference. While we will all miss the physical networking, meals, venue and events, as a benefit, we will have the ability to reach a larger audience at a lower cost. We also plan to adapt some of our training, such as CHC (Certified Healthcare Contractor), to a webinar format and likely an accessible video format in the coming year. This will also serve to increase accessibility and reduce cost to our contractors.

On a related note of online training, Safe Day One will be adding a module on Pandemic/COVID that will address current and emerging shifts like temp taking, health screens, physical distancing, masks, etc. Please respond to the questionnaire asking for your input on changes/policies made at your organization. We hope to have it available by the end of this year! Safe Day One is growing as a nationally recognized orientation tool for preparing folks to work in and around healthcare facilities. Remember, “We can’t wait to be Safe One Day, we need to be Safe Day One!”

Be sure to sign up as soon as you can for the KSHE Virtual Conference coming in October. Your KSHE Board has been working tirelessly to create as successful and valuable an event as possible for you. It will only be successful with your participation!
