Andy Woommavovah, VP Membership

Hello and Happy New Year from the Membership Desk! I hope that all had a wonderful Christmas and a New Year!

We start the new year off with some exciting news about our board. In November we welcomed two new board members to help guide our high performing chapter. It with great honor and excitement that we welcome our newest board members:

Immediate Past President / ASHE Advocacy Liaison: James Hauenstein, CHFM

James is the Market Director of Energy and Facility Services for the Southeast Division of CommonSpirit Health. Consisting of 4 hospitals and 50 off-sites totaling over 1.5 million sq. feet. He has been in health care for 26 years starting at the age of 18 as a porter two days a week. He was then given the opportunity through a volunteer program to train with the boiler operators for a total of 2 thousand hours and completed a six-month education course where he obtained his steam engineering license. His hard work in the early years laid the groundwork for his career as it stands today. James is a big advocate for training from within and feel that as a member of the KSHE Board he can help create pathways for young and old to increase their knowledge and further their careers with structured training courses. He strongly believes this path would be building a strong future in Healthcare Engineering Departments as well as vendor education and relations.

At-Large Director - Membership: Christopher Buford, CHFM

Chris Buford began working for the University of Kentucky Physical Plant Division Medical Center in October 2001. He started at the University of Kentucky Medical Center ANNEX Maintenance taking care of Medical Clinics, Medical Research Facilities, and six UK colleges including Medicine, Nursing, Health Sciences, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Public Health. He now works on the Hospital side of the Physical Plant as a Supervisor for Chandler Hospital where he has the responsibility for maintenance of all major operational and compliance equipment.

Before working at the University of Kentucky he served in the United States Navy as a SONAR Electronics Technician onboard two Nuclear Submarines, the first being the USS George C. Marshall a Ballistic Missile Submarine that was based out of Scotland for three years. He retired from the Navy with over 21 years of service.

Chris is a graduate of the Healthcare Facility Leadership Degree Program at Owensboro Community College. He also attained his Certified Healthcare Facility Manager Certification and is a Member of the Certified Healthcare Facilities Technician (CHFT) Subject Matter Expert Team. He holds a Master Electrical License and is the Chairman of Franklin Investment Corporation. In his spare time, he is Master Mason, Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner.

James and Chris, we welcome you to the board and look forward to a great year with you!

2020 Goals:

This past December we had a very successful board retreat where we set our goals for 2020. Our Membership Goals for 2020 include:

  • 30% increase in associate and healthcare facility master account membership
  • 75 healthcare facility master accounts
  • 87 associate member master accounts

You all can help us reach this goal by:

  • Renewals: Start now! Your master account memberships can be renewed at the KSHE Membership Portal (https://kshe.org/page/MembershipRenewal). REMEMBER that each hospital (small/medium/large) will have unlimited membership per hospital. The owner of the membership will be able to manage a roster to allow for unlimited members. The key is to manage your roster via the KSHE web portal. (HINT – this will help us reach the 30% increase and 75 facility master account goal)
  • Associate Members: We have also allowed for unlimited accounts under one membership. Please help us fill the ranks. (HINT – This will help us reach our Associate Member Goal)

I look forward to serving this great chapter in 2020!
Blessed to serve you, Andy
