Season’s Greetings KSHE Members!

Hard to believe the HFL program is in its 6th year already.  2019 has been a remarkable year of bringing several pieces together to position 2020 as a historic year for our profession.  For the first time in the healthcare facilities technician and leadership history, a very intentional and focused development career ladder will be in place.   I believe you will agree there will be many benefits for you and future healthcare facilities professionals.  While some the following do not fall directly under OCTC, they still are very directly connected to the program and are designed to provide value, choices, and ease of access.

Safe Day One – Comprehensive Orientation for anyone that crosses the thresh hold of a healthcare facility. $129.00 with recommended three year renewal. Working on version 4.0 in 2020. Can be converted for 1 credit hour ($200 value) for the Healthcare Facilities Technician (HFT) Certificate.  Provided by KSHE.

Healthcare Facilities Technician Certificate (HFT) – 18 Credit hour online academic certificate combined with work based competencies. Will also prepare you for the Certified Healthcare Facilities Technician (CHFT) Certificate.

Certified Healthcare Facility Technician (CHFT) – 145 question exam built around healthcare Life Safety, Ventilation, Electrical, Medical Gas, Infection Prevention, and Department Special Features. Passing Score of 70%. Can be transferred for 8 credit hours towards OCTC HFT Certificate (Over $1500 value). Cost of application and exam is $225.00. Provided by IHFEA – Institute for Healthcare Facilities Engineering Advancement.

Healthcare Facilities Foundation (HFF) – 15 Credit hour certificate designed to prepare technicians for lead/supervision.  100% Online. Provided by OCTC.

Healthcare Facilities Leadership Diploma/AAS – 42 & 62 Credit hour credentials designed for those entering or in management. Also prepares those who wish to take the CHFM. 100% Online. Provided by OCTC.

If you have been thinking about advancing your career or engaging more deeply into your profession, now is the time to get started. Be one of the first to hold these credentials and demonstrate commitment to our profession.

You still have time to register for spring classes that start on January 13, 2020. Safe Day One is ready now, go to the KSHE or Safe Day One website to register. The CHFT website will be ready for individual registration in January. Your organization can register for advance discounted CHFT exam seats by going to www.IHFEA.com

I truly believe these offerings are the beginning of even greater opportunities for those working in the healthcare facilities profession.

Best,  Mike, OCTC HFL Program Director
