Kentucky is for Winners!

Today’s a GREAT day to be a Kentuckian, particularly if you’re a Kentucky basketball fan. I’m writing this message on Wednesday, November 6th. Last night, the #2 Cats beat the #1 Michigan State Spartans on opening day, 69-62. The #2 Louisville Cardinals spanked Miami 87-74. The WKU Hilltoppers smoked Tennessee Tech, 76-64. Turning now to the statewide gubernatorial election results…nevermind.

What I really want to do is to encourage you. Healthcare facilities leadership is not for wimps. Working with limited staffing, no capital, aging facilities, unannounced credentialing surveys, and ridiculous expectations can be draining. But you keep hanging in there and coming back the next day, and the next. Sometimes it might feel like you’re not winning, but you are. Every day that you decide to come back to work and make good, well-informed decisions, you help take care of patients. Every day you come to work and put a smile on, dig in and help address a difficult mechanical problem, you make it easier for your team. Every day you sit with a co-worker and listen as he or she shares a personal tragedy they are dealing with, you make your team stronger. Every day you don’t accept that “it will never get better” and you find a way to make it better …you win.

Your KSHE chapter exists to help you win. What do you need in your job to help you succeed? Training for you and your team; KSHE does that. Capital for your essential infrastructure projects; we can show you how/where to get that. Recognition for the great things that are happening with your team, in your facility, and your community; we would love to hear about it and publish it so others can share in your joy and your success.

The Kentucky Society of Healthcare Engineers (KSHE) is an ASHE Platinum Elite Chapter – one of only 14 in the country. We are financially sound, loaded with talented and committed Board members, and we want you –our membership – to be successful, to win. We are here to serve you. As we wind down 2019, the KSHE Board is looking forward to our annual planning retreat. In the first week of December, we will spend two days charting KSHE’s course for 2020. If there is something that you need from us that will help you be more successful, please email me at joe.taylor@owensborohealth.org and let me know. If you have any interest in serving as a board member or on a board committee, please reach out and let me know.

I hope you have a happy, blessed, family Thanksgiving later this month. Take time to reflect on your blessings and your victories. You ARE a winner! Keep winning!
