KSHE EDUCATION UPDATE- October 2018

Greetings healthcare engineering professionals!

It was great to see many of you at the Healthcare Coalition Conference in Owensboro! I believe you will agree that we had excellent education offerings this year that covered relevant issues. Our tool belt training sessions were all at capacity! We also had some excellent weather! With just a couple of months left in the year, we still have some exciting education goals and opportunities coming up.

On November 30, 2018, we have our Let’s Talk code event in Louisville. This year, we will focus on NFPA 99. Our goal is to touch on the most relevant parts of NFPA such as medical gas, electrical systems and emergency management while at the same time taking a crosswalk from 2012, 2015 to the 2018 versions. While CMS adopted the 2012 version back in 2016, it is critical that we stay abreast of updates as code evolves. We are looking forward to having industry experts share their insights with us!

KSHE also just finished delivering Tool Belt Training at Baptist Health in Paducah! A big thank you to Matt Snow and Stanley Jackson for coordinating the event and having so many technicians attend the training. The facilities professionals at Baptist Health were extremely engaged with a good time of education and sharing. Looking forward to getting back to Baptist Health.

If your facility would be interested in scheduling a Tool Belt Training session in the future, please feel free to reach out to me or anyone of your KSHE board members.

I have mentioned in recent updates that there is a movement afoot to create an academic credential and apprenticeship for healthcare facilities technicians. I am excited to share with you that some very high-level meetings with state and national officials have been scheduled in the month of November to move this initiative forward. Your KSHE board will be actively engaged in this conversation and are looking forward to some big news in 2019!

Is it too early to say happy holiday season?!

The very best to you!
