KSHE Update

Hello Kentucky!

Summer is definitely here! There have been numerous heat advisories in the Commonwealth as the Heat Index pushed well into the triple digits during the past several days. Not necessarily bad weather if you are on vacation, near water or air-conditioning. But if you’re not, and you are responsible for facility cooling systems, it can be a nerve racking time of the year. The one advantage you do have is belonging to the KSHE Team of Hospital Engineers who are all willing to assist each other and share their wealth of knowledge. Though some of our hospitals may compete with one another, we are part of a statewide group who have common goals and challenges. There are no lines between us.

A few items to share:

The Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) has formally endorsed our Certified Healthcare Technicians program (CHT). Mike Rust, President of KHA, has recently sent letters of support to all KHA Hospital CEO’s. Please utilize this opportunity to take advantage of this comprehensive program by having all your staff, contractors and vendors CHT certified. This education can reduce the risks associated with facility maintenance and construction. Sign up at www.kshe.org.

KSHE has again signed up to participate in the ASHE Energy to Care Chapter Challenge. We will need more hospital involvement to maintain our connection with this worthwhile national program. Please take a moment to consider signing up your facility. It isn’t difficult and we do have people to help you. The advantage to you will come in the form of energy data you can access along with the energy saving tips that you will receive as a participant. This program is geared to help you reduce utility costs at your facility. Learn more at energytocare.org and email info@kshe.org with any questions.

Reminder, the Healthcare Coalition Conference deadline for room discounts is September 5th and online registration closes on September 19. Please take a moment to register for the conference and reserve your room at a reduced rate! Learn more.

I hope to see many of you in Indy during the upcoming ASHE Conference. This is always a worthwhile event that allows you to increase your knowledge, learn new trends and create new contacts.

Until then… Stay Cool!

Sincerely,

Jack A. Merrill, CHE, CHFM, CHPA, CHC
