Hello Kentucky!

Schools are letting out, families are headed off for vacations and life is becoming busier as we approach summer. It is a grand time of year for most and I particularly am looking forward to family time, cook-outs and golf.

There is also much happening at your KSHE Chapter and I have two very important announcements to share with you all….

First, our own Matthew Snow, of Baptist Health Paducah, has been selected by ASHE to receive the Emerging Leader Award for Region 3 (Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia). We are excited for Matt as this will be an invaluable asset in his growth as a Leader. We are also happy that KSHE has supplied another regional leader to ASHE. Congratulations Matt!

Second, KSHE has received the Platinum Elite Award from ASHE for its commitment to the Energy Star / Energy to Care program and the statewide effort to reduce utility consumption. Many of you are involved with this activity and as such, have driven our success, Thank You! We will be asking for more involvement and you will have a chance to be on this winning team.

Your Board is also working with other states to partner and share our Certified Healthcare Technician (CHT) program. This on-line program, endorsed by KHA, provides your contractors and staff the education necessary when working in a healthcare environment. Please have your staff and contractors take advantage of this unique, high quality program. It has become a base requirement at many hospitals across Kentucky.

Last but certainly not least, mark your calendars for the Healthcare Coalition Conference (HCC) which will be held September 26-28 in Lexington. This conference is second to none and provides education opportunities at a very reasonable cost. We promise, you won’t be disappointed!

Enjoy the weather,

Jack A. Merrill CHE, CHFM, CHPA
