Through the Student Author Contest, NACAS encourages students to reflect on the college and university issues that they consider to be the most important. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in the association and reflect on the impact of auxiliary services on their campuses.

According to NACAS Research, students define success by personal traits such as being committed, working hard, and being ambitious. Most recently, our studies show that students have defined success as “happiness” and “feeling fulfilled.” Further, 2019 data indicates that students rank university mental and physical health services amongst the top three most important factors needed critical to achieving success.

2020 Student Author Contest Prompt: How do auxiliary services impact students’ holistic wellbeing? Please provide specific examples of how auxiliary services can help improve the lives of students on your campus.

Contest Prizes: The first, second, and third-place prizes are $1,000, $600, and $400 respectively. All winning essays will be published in College Services magazine and will be promoted across NACAS media platforms.

Promote this contest on your campuses and encourage your student employees to enter! The contest deadline is April 1, 2020

As auxiliary services professionals, you play an important role in shaping student success stories. To support your commitment to enriching campus experiences, we are proud to present our newest member benefit, NACAS Benchmarking. This is the first-ever benchmarking program that is comprehensive to our industry. The discoveries that we make together will help transform your operations and improve student outcomes.

NACAS Benchmarking will collect data from members each year to unlock key findings about how colleges and universities are establishing the mark and trailblazing the industry. We partnered with Vault Consulting to make it easier for college service leaders to interpret, manipulate, and present data.

Update your institution’s membership roster before February 20 to ensure the most accurate communications for everything related to NACAS Benchmarking. Primary contacts can log-in to their accounts to update membership rosters or email info@nacas.org.

You will see the first NACAS Benchmarking survey email from Vault on February 27 when the 2020 data collection opens. View Frequently Asked Questions

With the upcoming launch of NACAS Benchmarking, understanding the value of comparing your institution to industry best practices is critical toward making the use of the latest member benefit. Check out these webinars, hosted by your NACAS peers, to learn more about how you can use the data from the Benchmarking report to support operations on your campus.

NACAS has signed onto a 15-association strong commitment to health and wellbeing in higher education. Through the pledge, originated by NIRSA and NASPA, organizations commit to innovating, supporting, and fostering a holistic, integrated, and strategic approach to well-being from the association level to the institutional level.

"We believe it is time to transcend reactive, siloed, programmatic approaches to health and establish foundational, proactive, well-being initiatives for the campus community. While students must receive appropriate and reactive care when needed, there are large-scale benefits to proactive, upstream approaches that will allow increasing numbers of students to flourish and thrive. By focusing on the whole — the whole person, the whole educational experience, the whole institution, the whole community — well-being becomes a multifaceted goal and a shared responsibility for the entire campus…" View Full Statement
