The 2016 NACAS Annual Conference was a success and the feedback has been tremendous! Thank you to all who participated by attending, exhibiting, presenting, and volunteering. It is your unique perspective, knowledge, and contribution that makes our conference so diverse and educational!

The NACAS Education Foundation hosted a number of exciting and well attended events at this year's conference. Through the hard work of our leadership and volunteers the Foundation raised record breaking amounts through their annual golf outing, silent auction & raffle, and their newly debuted duck pin bowling event!

These funds will help support NACAS professional development and leadership opportunities necessary to NACAS members to be successful as they support higher education through auxiliary/campus services in an ever-changing environment.

Congratulations to the 2016 NACAS Award winners! Your creativity, dedication to auxiliaries, and commitment to higher education have impacted not only your schools but all of NACAS.

Making the Connection

This week, NACAS ancillary services professionals are gathering at the University of Calgary to share knowledge on innovative food trends, best practices in the future of university housing, how to support international students, and much more!

We missed seeing many of our Canadian members at the 2016 NACAS Annual Conference as they were at home celebrating Thanksgiving with their loved ones. Thank you to everyone who helped make this Canada Day happen, it would not have been possible without the help of our Canadian Committee, volunteers, and sponsors.

Thank you to our sponsors!

As NACAS approaches its 50th Anniversary, the organization celebrates a rich and successful past while also looking forward to strategize how to continue to lead the college auxiliary services industry and provide indispensable and modernized value for years to come. Over the coming months, NACAS will work with Mekanic, a boutique agency out of northern Virginia, to help reposition and rebrand the association for the next  50 years. A big thank you to those who were able to take part in the Focus Group at this year's Annual Conference!

The Annual Business Meeting of the Association was conducted in Indianapolis at the Annual Conference on Tuesday, October 11th. At this meeting, the board of directors and membership voted to approve the 2017 budget and amended proposed changes to the Association's By-Laws. The new slate of officers were also voted on and approved: Mike Ellis (Vice President), Carlos Garcia (Treasurer), and Gheretta Harris, CASP (At-Large Member). Kelsey Harmon Finn, NACAS CEO, also introduced the new National Office staff to the group, including Hans Weichhart (Director of Administration), Corey Salem (Director of Member Engagement), Kennedy Turner (Director of Business Development), Austin Bingler (Educational Programs Coordinator), Ben Blohowiak (Technology Coordinator), and Beatrice "Esi" Yarney (Accounting Assistant).

The generosity of NACAS members was on full display at the 2016 NACAS Annual Conference.

The annual golf tournament and the inaugural bowling outing raised more than $28,000 combined. The annual raffle raised $4,285 - an increase from $3,550 raised during the 2015 conference.

Among the items donated for the raffle were: Starbucks gift cards; a signed racing car by Bobby Rahal; a Garmin watch; several Apple watches, Beats by Dr. Dre headphones; a Yeti cooler; and iPad mini's.

The silent auction raised more than $16,606 up from $11,935 last year.

All funds raised from the auction go to the NACAS Education Foundation to provide professional development opportunities for all NACAS members.

NACAS CEO Kelsey Finn said during the Annual Business Meeting that the State of the Association has been one of transition over the past year, but she believes the organization is poised to move ahead and serve its members well in the future.

Finn, who is nearing her first-year anniversary as CEO, told attendees at the NACAS Annual Business Meeting that the association is focused on finding more ways to meet the needs of its members, including webinars and institutes.

"We really are moving forward for the future of our organization," Finn said.

"As I mentioned in my opening comments of the conference, we really are in a time when higher ed is changing, and I do believe as auxiliary professionals we have the ability to impact that in a positive way in revenue, from student engagement, and the services we provide in the college experience," Finn said. "I'm hopeful that you're all on board, and we're going to do this together, and in a few years we'll be doing amazing things."

Finn praised the new staff in the national office, and encouraged NACAS members to reach out and share any ideas or concerns.

"We're here to listen to you and make this your organization," Finn said.
