To Dine For
This article by Laura Green, Sonoma State University, won the 2014 Student Author Contest Grand Prize award
The term "Auxiliary Services" is a daunting one if you ask me. This finely crafted umbrella term is unknown to the common college student here at Sonoma State University. However, I am not the common Sonoma State student. I hail from the suburbs of Burbank, California. Burbank is a tight knit community, but more importantly a home. A home that I did not fathom to ever leave behind, my mother included. I come from a single mother household where I was taught quite quickly how to be an adult. Three prominent years; 2007, 2009, and 2012 were years which shaped me as I dealt with my mother’s three encounters with colon cancer. Leaving Burbank and venturing 400 miles to Rohnert Park, California, seemed like a laughable vision. Read more

My World in Auxiliary Services
This article by Ruth C. Soler, Auburn University at Montgomery, won the 2014 Student Author Contest Second Place award

I worked part time off campus and attended classes full time. When I wasn’t doing either of these, I was at home taking care of my children. Clearly, I had no time for a traditional college experience. With my work load, I was certain I would be nothing more than just another student, or so I thought. Read more

How Auxiliary Services Has Influenced My College Experience
This article by Nora Harris, Clemson University, won the 2014 Student Author Contest Third Place award
In the spring of 2013, I accepted an internship with BMW Manufacturing Co., the maker of expensive, flashy, sports cars. A name infused with money and class. I remember walking into the manufacturing plant for the first time and being amazed by the clean layout and design of the assembly process. And, of course, by the fully assembled cars that drove off the end of the line followed by a honk of their pristine horns. Read more
