Halo Branded Solutions
Making the Connection

If you missed the opportunity to attend the 2014 NACAS Annual Conference in Montreal, featuring over 80 education sessions, inspiring messages from our three general sessions speakers, and the spectacular culture and hospitality of our Canadian hosts, I think everyone will agree that this year’s conference was one of the best we’ve had! My congratulations to the 2014 Annual Conference team, led by Kathryn Le Gros and Ed Kane, who should be proud of the fantastic work they accomplished. In particular, their Canadian Challenge campaign resulted in 112 Canadian institutional attendees, more than any other NACAS conference and more than double the number who attended in 2013.

NACAS is a strong association and I am proud of all the efforts of our volunteer leaders, committee chairs and members, regional leadership and boards. Without their commitment, the good work that supports our association cannot be performed. I look forward to 2015 and improving the programs and services that support your institutions and the businesses with whom we partner.

Some of you know that I had surgery a mere four weeks before this year's Annual Conference, and immediately before the conference I was given medical clearance to attend on the condition that I keep my activities to a minimum. Because of this, regrettably I was unable to see and talk to many of you.

Over the next month, we will begin planning a robust and exciting professional calendar for the upcoming year. Included in that calendar will be the 2015 NACAS Annual Conference on Nov. 1 - 4 in San Antonio, Texas. I look forward to being in full-force in San Antonio! The 2015 Annual Conference Committee has already begun to make plans that will continue to reinvent what a NACAS Annual Conference is. We are looking forward to sharing these ideas with you soon.

In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. We may not have been able to connect at the conference, but your comments are an integral part of helping us move NACAS forward!

Using Hashtags to Market Your Campus
Did you know you have between 50 to 5,000 reporters at your venue, at all times? Think about it: Attendees today are more social than ever, posting online about your venue before you can even hand them a name badge. That means that before they have even arrived at your venue, they have posted photos of the surrounding area, their packing prep or a picture en route to your venue. Events in today's culture have unique hashtags to connect attendees before and after the conference. Learn more

Ashland University Chef Camp Huge Success
Ashland University held its first ever AU Chef Camp in June of 2014 and students between the ages of 10 and 18 were able to learn the basics in food preparation and cooking.

"We’ve had an overwhelming response of students to join the camp," said Fred Geib, general manager of operations at AU. "We actually had enough students on the waiting list to do another session." Students received two days of instruction and hands-on experience in the kitchen, then putting their knowledge to the test cooking for their friends and family on the final day of camp.

"These young chefs prepared meals that included plates such as pasta, carved beef, cookies, tarts and many more dishes," Geib said.

Sightlines Report Finds that 51% of Buildings on College Campuses Now Approaching Critical Lifecycle Thresholds
The large amount of buildings constructed on American college campuses between 1951 and 1990 – buildings that represent 51 percent of all space on those campuses – are nearing or have already reached critical lifecycle thresholds and are in need of either renewal or replacement, according to a new report released today by Sightlines.

"Our report documents that facilities maintenance projects on American college campuses continue to grow as academic institutions have been unable to secure enough capital funding to bring these buildings up to full repair," said Mark Schiff, president and chief executive officer of Sightlines, a leader in helping academic institutions better manage their facilities and capital investment strategies. "The reality is that no single strategy will work to eliminate this backlog. However, innovative campus leaders have been able to develop pro-active capital plans that address this facilities problem in a systematic way." Learn more
