The Senior Executive Institute (SEI) was held July 19-21, 2017 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. SEI is an intensive learning experience incorporating small group seminars and group collaboration. During this time, executives networked with colleagues who were experiencing similar challenges and opportunities in the auxiliary services field.

So what did we learn? The biggest takeaway from the event was that auxiliaries executives need to focus on providing time and space to implement change on campus. It is important to get out of the day-to-day whirlwind, to sit back and think about what is the biggest impact you can have in your leadership role.

Auxiliary service professionals should work to create inclusive, comfortable environments for all students. Part of that is considering the rising cost of education. How is the market affecting recruitment, retention, and the future of the college economic model? How are you working with other departments on campus to build relationships? Aligning mission and values is a vital component of understanding each other's languages and ensuring that students have the best experience possible. Listening is key to understanding what students need.

NACAS would like to thank Rutgers University for hosting our campus tour, where the group toured their mail system, their records facility, the Barnes & Noble bookstore, and was able to see how transportation works on a multi-campus system. NACAS would also like to thank sponsors Barnes & Noble and the NACAS Education Foundation.
